It wasn't quite as much as I though, but still funny.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

I always felt that was fandom hyperbole. Pragmatism =/= Fanatism. In fact, I thought it was nothing but an excellent example of how far the Inquisition is willing to go to protect its interests.

That's true, but they never actually worship Khorne. It might be poorly written, but they don't worship Khorne.

It certainly falls short of the claim "there are Gray Knights in this codex that are actively worshiping Khorne." I really hope that guy heard that second hand.

Its very RT / 2nd ed actually, back when seeing a GK meant your regiment would die, and they would mind wipe other space marines who had seen them

People complain about not getting good fluff that reflects the background, and then complain when that is exactly what they are given!

People just want to hate Matt Ward because nerd rage is very volumous and can easily fill voids in souls.

The main problem is that he writes in the grimdark style, and that quickly gets very predictable in 40k. The rulebook can be written that way, but nothing else should be, with a few exceptions. Otherwise it turns everything into worlds were torn asunder... castles float on rivers of fire.

Draigo is a Mary Sue, he lives in the warp, fights Greater Daemons with utter ease (most Greater Daemons are the same skill level as a Primarch) then carves his name into the heart of the defeated Primarch of the Death Guard.

No, he just writes really badly.

Examples would be;

Necrons being allies with Blood Angels, Inquisition is never mentioned, Grey Knight Codex,Ultramarines fanboism etc.

How is this Mary Sue?

He's the Grand Master of the best space marines that have ever existed. And they specialize in fighting Daemons.

It makes sense.

Ultramarines: sure, mary sue.

Draigo; he's just a badass. This is 40k. Over-the-top badass should be expected.

He's living in the Warp, he should have dissolved into dust the moment he entered it, and now he can fight a Daemon Primarch. Few can even come close to it, it's completely unjustified.

Also, he's technically a Waro being.

I had no idea it was saved. Far less multilasers than it had at some point though. I know at one point his name was CS "Multilaser" Goto, a multilaser writer who came from the isle of multilasers. His first publications about multilasers being featured in multilasers magazine of course.

You call Ultramarines "mary sue" but have no problem with the famous epic-heroic Supreme Grandmaster of "the best Space Marines that have ever existed"? Huh.

No, personally, I don't see him being trapped in the Warp as the problem - although this is a first timer and especially remarkable for a human, from how I understood the Warp it was never truly impossible but merely hinged upon one's strength of will and "soul coherence". It's that the guy fought some bigass daemon completely unaided, as a rank-and-file GK, and carved a friggin' name into the daemon's heart after subdueing him. A daemon that, moments ago, had little trouble killing the former "Grand Master of the best space marines that have ever existed", so it appears he is special even for GK levels. Not to mention his many silly exploits in the Warp.

There just isn't anything tragic about him that would "negate" all the OTT stuff he's pulling off. No weaknesses of any kind. If he were a normal human, the tragic thing would be that he is trapped and cannot return to the mortal one and his friends and loved ones - but as a hypno-indoctrinated Space Marine, this is just an extended tour of duty for him. I doubt he feels any sort of regret. He just goes on slaying foe after foe, so much so that daemons are afraid to challenge him in their own domain. How is that not Mary Sue?

Matter of taste, I guess.

Technically, if you go back to Rogue Trader, Space Marines and Eldar had multilasers.

Maybe the guys at Black Library were just dicks and sent him the wrong rulebook to do his background research.

I made a Space Marine with a multilaser as an homage to Rogue Trader. Named him Brother Anachronus, and that after his multilaser's suspensors stopped working, he kept in shape by practicing backflips.

Am I the only one who doesn't think it's a big deal for a Space Marine to walk around with a Multi-Laser and fire it? The pattern on Sentinels aren't much bigger then Autocannons, which SM's carry. And I'm a fluff fanatic.....

Its certainly no big deal, but what is a big deal is Goto seems to have a massive fetish for Multi-lasers. A weapon marines currently don't use anywhere.

Plus there are the backflipping terminators getting dragged away by spore mines, Devestators beating Carnifex's to death with their multi-lasers, and the transforming vehicles.

Come again? lol While that's clearly out of character for the fluff, it also sounds like a friggin hillarious read! What stories are those in? The only thing I've read by Goto was the Bloodravens Omnibus. It wasn't too bad.

Well, Terminators are supposed to be surprisingly nimble for something of their size. Goto just took it too far. I envision a "fast" terminator to be akin to Juggernaut from X-men, who is actually not all that slow but not a ninja in agility either.

All on one page you say? I MUST FIND THIS BOOK! lol

Regarding the relative speed of terminators - I agree with the X-men thing. I picture them to be fast in the same way as a locomotive once it gets going, but not very "quick". In other words they aren't going to side-step anything. For better or worse there will be a collision ... unless it has time to back flip ... apparently ... from what I've recently read .... lol

It was the Dawn of War omnibus, iirc? Don't quote me on that, I only heard this from people who complained about these flaws.

Personally, I don't think it's that big of a deal. It seems to be a mixture of rare sloppiness (vehicles changing their type from one page to the other) and lack of background research, but nothing out of the ordinary for BL fiction. I guess it's just that he wrote about Space Marines, so more people are likely to point out weird things than when, say, Mitchell writes about the Schola Progenium, where people just don't notice any inconsistencies. So the only reason Goto is being singled out by many seems to be "faction blindness".

Cut the man some slack, will ya. At least he comes across as a pretty cool guy in his interviews.
