Not exactly battle damage but I suppose It could have the same effect. I was wondering how I could get the front end of the model to look burnt, like from entry into atmosphere.

So... Is this possible and how would I go about doing this?

Drybrush black. I did this. Looked great. Don't have pics because I repainted it. I preferred the cleaner look

Huh. Should I water down the black first? I kind of did this before. There is a hole in the front (like a space between two pieces because Im crap at putting vehicles together) so I watered down some black and put it on there to make it look like it had been hit by a missle.

Never water paint down when drybrushing. Its called DRYbrushing for a reason. You need the paint dry as possible and watering it down doesn't help.

Look through the gallery at some drop pods to see how others have done burn marks like that.

Might also want to look at weathering powders

A soot black weathering powder will give the most realistic effect, but some subtle drybrushing should do the trick, as well. I'd suggest mixing up your colors, a bit, with a hint of dark brown at the trailing edge of the scorching. The touch of variation lends visual interest, as well as realism.

The Dreadnote wrote:But the Emperor already has a shrine, in the form of your local Games Workshop. You honour him by sacrificing your money to the plastic effigies of his warriors. In time, your devotion will be rewarded with the gift of having even more effigies to worship.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll probs post my work once It has been finished. I have been working on it for quite some time, and as it is my first vehicle, I can't wait for some criticism on it.

I will try the idea with the browns. Thanks for all the advice.

Stippling is probably also a good idea for this.

Did you know? The Reach belongs to the Forsworn.

My paint so far seems to be cover up the red too much. Im probs gonna go at it with a knife to give the scorching/ blastmarks a bit more texture.

Unfortunately, weathering of any kind tends to ruin your fantastic original paintjob. however with orbital re-entry scorching, its not really somethig thats going to be small or local, so I say go big with it If you can see any red on the nose or wing leading edges, then your Raven isn't doing enough work
