I could have sworn I posted a WIP topic somewhere but can't remember where and can't find it. In any case, Pre Heresy Kharn is done. I know he isn't painted but he is as finished as I can make him since he was done on commission for someone else who will do the painting. Hopefully these few pics will suffice. I built him using a Khorne Berserker kit. The jump pack marine's armour isn't exactly period appropriate but at least I made sure the jump pack was. The smoke was sculpted using Super Sculpey Firm polymer clay in case anyone was wondering. Any questions, feel free to ask. In addition to the pictures, check out the YouTube video for a real-time view of this conversion project.

Holy crap, that looks amazing!
One thing though, is that orb in the middle of his torso. Wouldn't it be cool to add teeth above and below it?

The chain axe (Gore Child) is meant to have the teeth of a Mica Dragon (or something...), right? Is the axe design aimed at representing that? Either way, very cool conversion!

Wow this is awesome. I love it, although I may not have put the bunny ears on if I was doing a pre heresy kharn. But you picked the exact same head I've been saving for my kharn conversion so I can't even really complain. Very VERY nice work here!! And that diorama is spectacular, how did you do the jump pack smoke?

The conversion and sculpting work is very nice, but I am confused by the scene - what are we witnessing?

Why is the jump-packer chained to the banner?

Insane sculpting! Could you be bothered to show off your skills in different steps? Do you go 1 leg at a time, or everything in layers from a sort of skeleton start?

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

It looks like the jump guy is raising the banner. Holding a chain and raising it up to show the world eaters dominance ;p

Well this is a Pre Heresy Kharn so the 'K' axe as I call it is not Gorechild. Gorechild was given to Kharn much later by Angron. The guy who commissioned this conversion didn't want a standard chain axe so I designed one that would represent Kharn as his custom designed weapon - thus the 'K' shaped axe-like weapon. Lots of people have told me they don't like it but the guy who bought it didn't express any concerns before I sent it to him so I guess he was alright with it.

The jump pack smoke was sculpted bit by bit using Super Sculpey Firm polymer clay. It was a matter of sticking lots of clay balls together in just the right way and then blending and sculpting them into a somewhat realistic smoke column. The fins on Kharn's helmet were part of my clients design brief and I used some existing art work of Pre Heresy Kharn as well to come up with my design. The head I used was one that the client sent to me and asked me specifically to use. Thanks for the feedback and hope you get your conversion off the ground soon so we can all see it.

We are witnessing Kharn overseeing the raising of a World Eaters banner on the top of a mountain peak. The jump pack marine is hoisting the banner up with the chain which is attached to the banner pole.

I didn't do a WIP photo log on this project but I have a few pics of early development. I also have a couple tutorial videos on my youtube channel but these are for a large scale Jabberslythe sculpt I did using polymer clay which involves a completely different sculpting approach to my miniature sculpts and conversions; if you are interested in checking out any of my other sculpting projects or tutorials then go to my channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/Spidey7i/videos?view=0. When I am sculpting a miniature from scratch I start with a wire armature then apply underpinning and then work on outer layers. For conversions I already have a foundation in the kit piece I am converting. I tend to start my sculpting with the chest plate and work down but there are no hard and fast rules. In fact, I usually have several different elements of a conversion's armour in development at the same time.

Of course! Failed my "Forbidden Lore: Traitor Legions" test.

Anyway, I like the axe. It's is like an unnecessarily flamboyant gladiatorial weapon, which fits the World Eaters perfectly
