That was exactly the end I predicted. Centipedes are Mean man. They're pretty cool too though. I'd love one for a pet but it'd make me so damn paranoid what with the poisonous bite and all.
Not really a surprising outcome. As AduroT said, Centipedes are mean mofos. Watch any garden varaity Centipede take on any form of spider and the spider always gets devestated. They are just far to agile for a spider to handle.

Some animals should never be kept as pets no matter how 'kewl' it makes you look. You can bond and have a relationship with a mammal, those who really know what they are doing can take any advanced mammal, even a primate or a big cat as a companion. However you cant bond with an arthropod and its doubtful you can bond with a reptile either, consequently keeping a highly venomous one as a pet is just dumb.
If you want an arthropod pet try an Emperor scorpion, its got plenty of cool points is easy to keep and if/when it stings you it wont matter much. People who keep venomous centipedes, fat tailed scorpions, brown recluses or deathstalkers have whats coming to them. Most of the above are more venomous than any but a handful of snakes.
n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
You can also bond with some large fish, anyone who's kept a large cichlid, especially an oscar, will tell you they are a smart animal and recognise and behave differently around their owners.
Marine Triggerfish are very smart animals, at least as smart as a medium mammal like a chinchilla or a cat and I've seen an undulate trigger that had bonded with it's owner, displaying to her, getting agitated if she left the room, jealous if she was sat with someone else away from the tank and inverting and holding himself at the surface to allow her to tickle him. He would also entirely 'renovate' his tank if things were moved around, until he was happy with it.

I don't think the people who keep seriously venemous reptiles and arthropods are just doing it to look 'kewl' though, as long as they're kept in a safe place, the owner has some degree of experience or training and it only possible for the animal to danger themselves, I don't see a problem.

When I lived in someone else's house the two Igs were just loose in my bedroom, door kept closed when I was around to supervise them. When I later got my own place they got the spare bedroom to themselves. Again door kept closed when I wasn't there to supervise em.

My god that would be so fun...when you have someone coming over (who you don't know too well) please tell me you were like 'oh yeah, dump your stuff in the spare room' and then when they turned away you just waited in anticipation for the 'OH WHAT THE HELL!'
I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...
Giant centipedes are the tanks of the bug kingdom, spiders lack natural armour in comparison, so I'd expect the centipede to win most encounters; at best I reckon they'd end up killing each other.
Good find! Not much of a fight though was it? That damn Centipede just ambushed the poor Tarantula.... Actually, the whole Centipede thing makes my scalp itch.... Brrrrrrrr.....
One of my ex GFs kept Tarantulas as pets. Chilean Red Knees. Really lovely creatures, and literally as old as the hills. I used to freak her mother out by sitting one on top of my head and going downstairs to make a cup of tea...

Indeed. Further, tarantulas aren't terribly poisonous, not like recluses, widows, or Brazilian banana spiders. But yea centipedes are mean machines. Thats why they've been around since forever. They are also on the list of bugs that creep out Team Wiener Dog. Yikes!

Who would keep a brown recluse as a pet??? have they seen what a bite does. When I used to be a mover back in the day, every time I lifted something in someones basement i got worried about those damn things.
As far as Mantis vs centipede I have had 4 mantis as pets and i can tell you without a doubt they would lose to the centipede. I can also tell you 1 mantis vs 2 dozen crickets the mantis losses. I was trying to save a trip to the pet store and dumped 2 dozen in instead of 1 like normal and they gangbanged him. I was mad at myself for that. I did feed the bigest of the four i had an Anole sp? a small lizard. The guy at the pet store said it should be fine because it can stick to the glass and stay out of reach. Within 5 minutes it went to the ground and it was over, the mantis with one strike got its main claw through the eye socket of the lizard( that was twice the size as the mantis) and it died instantly. The mantis ate it's brain then its belly and left the rest for the crickets.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

I had an Iguana that I used to let roam the house. It was trained to go on news papers in a particular area and when it was hungry, would climb my shoulders to my head and ride me around. I even had a leash to take it on walks outside.
One of the coolest pets I had, ever.
