Here we go, the first UK miniature KS......

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/179598287/alien-centoids?ref=recently_launched

Your chance to own an army of 28mm scale Alien Centoids, a range of multipart, poseable plastic resin figures and vehicles

This Kickstarter is all about getting a great range of aliens in to production for Sci - Fi wargaming. We wanted to make something a little different to game with and after playing around with a few designs settled on the one we were most passionate about.

These figures are multi part and poseable. The figures typically come in 4 parts. The lower body is in two parts, the torso its on this via a ball joint and the head is mounted to the torso via a ball joint too. This allows us to put together the figures with a great amount of variety. Please take into account we have used putty to assemble the figures for photos. The joints are snug and the final casts will fit together snugly.

These figures will be cast in spin castable plastic – a hard mix containing high impact polystyrene. It is much harder, and tougher, than resin. Heat resistant up to 200F, and can handle prolonged exposure at 150F. It can be super-glued together, and takes standard miniature paints. All figures come unassembled and unpainted.

First things first.. Height. These guys measure in at approx 42mm tall and approx 35mm long, so make great, imposing aliens in games all the way up to 40mm. They'll fit right in with 28mm / Heroic 30mm figures.

For this initial release there are 3 left sides and 3 right sides for the lower bodies. All are interchangeable with each other.

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

GREAT replacement for Zoats, especially if you don't like like GW Zoats with Tyranid weapons.

Been cancelled sadly . Could of offered to honour the existing pledges as a bit of good will. Think I’ll avoid any future kick-starters from this guy.

Hi All,
Firstly a huge thanks to our backers and to those who have sent us comments and encouragement direct.
This morning we are cancelling this Kickstarter.

We were approached by a third party over the weekend with an offer to purchase the whole range of figures. We have decided that this would be the best route to go. These figures, and more, will still be put into production. I'll send each of you an update as to where they can be purchased from ASAP.
Again many thanks for your support

Whiff-waff (the owner's nick) typically sells his sculpts so I was surprised to see him even launch a KS.

This is sorta like ending an auction early on eBay...poor form.

I thought pledges get refunded if the KS fails or is cancelled.

As it's a KS no money was actually taken so nobody lost anything (except a bargain if you wanted the sculpts)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Hmm

I wonder if the scupts were done on comission and the comissioner tried to 'underpay' for them

the KS might have provided an alternative way for the sculptor to make cover their costs (and incentivese the comissioner to pay up in full)

Yep that’s my point. I assume I’ll be paying a fair bit more with a third party involved.

might be worth editing the title since this is really no longer a real kickstarter

I wonder who bought them. Trollforge? They would fit very well in his Tyranid-inspired ranges, and trollcast would be a nice, not-as-expensive way to sell them.

Trollforged is great, but especially with their own kickstarter, they've (Ed has...?) always been tremendously backlogged with casting. I doubt they would have the room to order an entire line of new miniatures and pay for them up-front.

Probably for the best I think, trying to kickstart a single type of model like that does not stand a huge chance of being successful anyway. Of course, the range might have been expanded but I still don't mind picking them up from somewhere else in the future!

Are you saying that a single type of model is too 'niche' for Kickstarter?

Have people forgotten what the purpose of Kickstarter and crowdfunding is?

Count the number of pre established setting games where you could use dwarves

Count the number of pre established setting games where you could use alien centoids

Though I must wonder, who would buy off the "not zoats"?

The POINT of Kickstarter and crowd-funding is to take a questionably popular concept and present it to the audience in hopes of finding enough people to fit into that niche.

It doesn't matter if you make a card game that objectifies women where you play the role of a tentacle monster... there probably may be an audience for that and Kickstarter will find it for you (or tell you that audience doesn't exist).
