I'll be starting Hordes with some other players, Cygnar and Khador for Warmachine and two Circle players for Hordes. I'll be picking up Everblight, and was wondering about noob tips - both generally and for Everblight.
Thanks in advance.

Synergy and order of activation is what Warmahordes comes down to. You must look for how you can overlap your various abilities to win the game and set up a caster kill run.
As for Legion, Angelus are amazing warbeasts. Very good at killing things with that armor piercing tail.

Legion has amazing warbeasts and amazing support for said warbeasts. The battle box is a solid purchase. From there, one or two Shepards and/or a Forsaken are best, as they let you get better mileage out of your warbeasts. If you want more choice in warbeasts, the Scythean and Ravagore are some of the best heavies in the game.

I'll be starting with the battle box. Should I be looking at Close combat or ranged combat, or a mix?

Legion has a mixture of ranged and melee attacks, with the bulk of the damage being done in melee.
Of course it entirely depends on the list and Warlock.
A simple Warlock change can completely change how a list plays.

A mix of both is good. Different warlocks have strengths in different areas: Lylyth1 from the box and Lylyth2 both support very good ranged-heavy armies, while Thagrosh2 can run a devastating melee-heavy list. In general, you can eliminate infantry and lights effectively at range, but unless you have a large amount of high-power ranged attacks, and can focus it all on one target, heavy warjacks and beasts are best taken down in melee. Grey Templar wrote:Legion has a mixture of ranged and melee attacks, with the bulk of the damage being done in melee. I would agree in general...unless you're facing Lylyth2. In which case, their arrows/dragon breath will blot out the sun.

I see... mostly combat for big things, but shooting can be effective too. Starting with Lylyth as Warlock, I guess shooting will be a good option for the large majority of models?

Depends. Shooting is more of somthing you do in the first couple turns to weaken the enemy before closing to finish off in melee. There arn't many factions that can actually win just with shooting. Cygnar is one of them.

So is Legion, imho. Lylyth2 with Ravagores and Striders can put out a ridiculous amount of damage at range, against infantry or heavies.

Don't buy the Battle Box! You said you have friends starting out with Circle! You should buy the Two Player Starter for Hordes! It's like you each purchased a Battle Box, and then got a free unit on top of it!

You fool! The Circle player would get Skinwalkers, who are getting crazy good with their new UA!
