Subject: Dkok... Yes or No?

So, I have been happily fielding a few 40k armies for a while, but none of them give me the excitement that I got when I got into the hobby. For a while I have been seriously considering starting a new dkok army, but I don't know whether I should, or how I should go about it. In order to do so I would have to sell my armies if I wanted to form a large with them, and besides, I am running out of room! On another note, if I do go for it should I use this cheap way ( http://www.astronomican.com/showthread.php?21781-Honsou-s-Guide-to-Affordable-Death-Korps ) or should I use the beautiful regular fw models at a larger cost. Another thing for me to consider is how people will react to the army. I would field them as stock IG, because some of the people at my local club are very fussy about using the official rules, and I don't want people to think I am collecting the guard for the of it. Anyway, enough talking, I want Dakka's opinion!
Thanks!

Anyone who gets fussy over DKOK is a baby.
they're just as hard to play as regular guard, if not harder. (No flyers, no veterans, worse transports).
Go DKoK if you have the money, the patience (modeling and painting them is a bugger), and the true desire. FW armies are not ones to start on a whim. You marry them.

Don't sell your other amies tbh, just start collecting the forgeworld krieg at a slow pace, take more time painting them and get thet special bond with them..
That sounded more weird than it should have

If you can afford it, go for it. They're awesome models.

Selling all your stuff for one army doesnt seem worth it. Id say just build up to it as has been said.
Or play Armageddon steel legion. There's a metal box of em on GW's website and they look similar. And are cheaper. I'd also consider those.

The DKoK's FW rules are slightly under powered compared to the current IG codex.
You can use them as regular IG and let your friends read the Seige Regiment's rules. I think they will find them to be prefectly fine.
BTW, 90% of FW rules are like that. Underpowered or about the same as GW codices.

FW rules are just as official as codex rules.

I wouldn't bother. Sure it's cheaper, but you're stuck with a single set of poses/weapons (and IG need their heavy/special weapons) and you're going to spend a lot of time re-sculpting the missing detail. Unless you have lots of time and sculpting skill but no money you're probably better off just buying the regular models.
Anyway, that said, if you want DKoK build DKoK. Don't waste your time with the "cheap" models that look awful, buy the real ones and be happy. They're amazing models and you won't regret it one bit. I certainly didn't. And you can still use them as codex guard for a variant list.

uhh... what? Were this true, then every guard power gamer wouldn't be scrambling to cram as much DKoK stuff into their list as humanly possible. When they're on part with other auto-includes like vendettas, it's hard to see just how underpowered they are.
Anyways, I voted no. As mentioned, selling off several other armies isn't worth it, especially for models that, while looking good, are unfortunately cast in resin. If you don't want brittle models that will melt in a hot car, then FW DKoK aren't for you.
If what you really want to do is DKoK, I'd just use regular guardsmen with their rules. If you were made of money, it might be a different story, but as you're not...

I wouldn't sell your armies, just collect slow and if you have some Imperials of any kind already then maybe start them off as a small detachment force and build from there.

That's news to me, and I think to most people. They've got a couple good units that you can't make an entire army with, and the rest is mediocre or flat out awful.

The official models are pricy, but that's necessarily not a bad thing. That just requires you to take a long time putting the army together and you'll get like a "bond" to them.
Otherwise you can get Cadians, slap a little blob of green stuff onto their faces, make two holes and you've got yourself a gas mask. Or check out some bit makers.

I don't really see why people are saying not to sell the existing armies. The OP says they're bored of everything they own now, and hasn't said anything like "they're amazingly well painted and I can't stand the thought of losing them". If an army doesn't make you happy anymore put it on ebay and get something better.

Taken all of this into consideration. As for the models melting in the sun, I live in the rainy UK so it isn't too much of an issue... And I'd rather play an underpowered army and struggle to defeat my opponent than go in with an army, roll some dice, game over. I have decided to go for the actual unit models as they look bad ass, and I suppose spending a large amount of money on something really nice looking is better than spending a still large amount of money on something that looks meh.

If your opponents are whining about you using FW models with the vanilla codex, then you may want to just find a new club. Anybody that anal is just being a gakker.
I'd say box up your old armies and hang onto them, never know when you'll want to play them again, and you can play with them while you build your krieg army.
