I recently read an article/infographic (http://www.geeksaresexy.net/2012/11/11/gamers-get-girls-or-guys-infographic/) which argues that there's a higher success rate for forming a relationship using a MMORPG than an online dating site. With this in mind, I'm curious as to why there aren't any (at least none I've heard of) Warhammer tournaments or like events designed around dating.

The idea of a Warhammer speed dating type event seems like a great premise, and would be a really cool way for gals and guys to get together, play a game we love, and meet other cool single gamers.

Does something like this exist? What are y'all's thoughts about it?

I live in the metro Atlanta area (near Gigabytes). Is anyone else out there interested in having something like this?

I believe the main problem would be the lack of members of the female sex that play this wonderful game, and most that do probably got into it with their boyfriends.

Well I would assume that any girls wanting to play warhammer in your area would come to the club to play. So would realy just be as a normal day.
Unless you make all the guys get to move one unit and then pass it on to the next guy.

Or you could also consider conventions as one also :0

That was my very first thought!

Depends on your definition of "forming a relationship". If we go by my definition, then I've had four relationships in the last two years as a direct result of online dating, as opposed to the zero I've had in my entire life from MMOs.

That number is probably largely skewed by the fact that I'm not playing WoW.

I picture most of the guys I see at the FLGS, and consider that the only two girls who I've ever seen in there pretty much cling to the guy they're there with, and I think I can say that any event organized to do this will result in either a sausage-fest, or paid women.


I also feel like pointing out that there is a (non-40k) speed dating event at Gencon. I've not been to it so I can't say how bad it might be, but it seems, based upon personal observations, that gaming of any variety is a poor premise to organize something like this around. That is to say, most of the chicks that give me the time of day who are gamers are, well, shall we say "not my type".

If some of the gamers I know are to be regarded I dare say a betwen 6 to 7 foot tall gamer with the temprament of a grumpy Ogre and the brawns to back it up. So a immensy painfull paisting is one of the things standing betwen you and said woman.

Nah, I don't see this going well just because of the gender skew in tabletop gaming.

I do know couples who met through world of warcraft, and I met my girlfriend through a forum for graduate students. But I think that's something else to a warhammer dating tournament. One of my previous girlfriends played, but she wasn't huge about it either. She played before I met her, but we didn't get together through warhammer.

The OP has made me verry sad. And I am now reluctant to start this hobby. If you want to meet girls do it the old fashion way of going out and meeting them, or if you want to do speed dating (which is actually pretty fun) go to a speed dating location! I doubt there are many woman who play this game and most of the ones you'd want to be with are probably out of your reach. If you want a life partner who does the "dork scene" flirt at your local comic book shop, chances are you''ll find a girl who may take an interest to your hobby and join you in collecting.
And FYI the most "successful" relationships are not the ones that pick your match for you. While they have theosteoporosis marriages, it's funny how they never post the divorce rates. It's the relations that you go out and make for yourself that are specials. Because at least 25% of the romance comes from the story of how the two of you just met.

To summarize put down the 40k models and go outside and meet someone!

I'm bi-sexual and so would happily attend any such event

Have to agree with others though, there aren't enough girls that play 40k. And those who do wouldn't go to such an event because they know what the average gamer is like...

I think your dad is spot on. Frequently I've understood that assertive/dominant men can be found in relationships more often than very passive or non-alpha ones. If you can strike up a conversation with a girl, and she reacts, go ask her if she wants to do something*, even if she has a boyfriend**.

*And for christsake, come up with something cooler to do than "something".

**Just don't do it in front of the boyfriend.

There are some cute guys that play 40k, but given ive been civil partnered for a few years its just window shopping

Given the M:F ration in gaming, a straight speed dating tournament may struggle...

Thank you KtheNecron or whatever your name is i agree completely sure it would be great to get more women table top gaming but it will take a shift in us to make the game more appealing and open up to new ideas female players would bring

GenCon does a speed dating event, but I hear it's a sausage fest.

I like sausages. Do we get sauce?

At least locally something like that won't work to well. While there are more "geeky" women than there used to be, I still see one chick for every 10-15 dudes. An event like described is either going to flop in the most horrible of fashions OR take a page from the old Roman days and turn into quite an....interesting event.

My family and my girl's family has always been on the geeky side of the fence. I often have found through some of the other geeky women I've known that they pick thier mates rather early in life. I've met up with a few of them since highschool and they STILL have the same dudes. As such I doubt there are many free ones still running around.
