Hey, so my question is what would happen if all the 'good' races allied to defeat the orks, nids and chaos?
eg. the IoM form a temporary truce with the tau and eldar and possibly the necrons too (regarding their new fluff which is that they dont just go EXTERMINATE everytime they see another life form)
because if they allied they could destroy the orks and with necron help probably the nids too, chaos although may be the hard part of the plan though.

otherwise do you think it could be done ?
to me it seems like the smart thing to do, bring in the superior tech of the tau, necrons and eldar accompanied by the mass of troops the guard can muster and also the elite space marines.

Now now, there are probably some good guy races. Of course, they're hidden away in little obscure backwaters, don't have a military to compete with the big boys, and tend to be genocided or enslaved by whatever major power notices them first.

Before the inevitable "not grimdarkness" responses descend, I will say such a wide spread alliance is impossible in the universe of 40k due to the way the setting is and has been established.

Limited alliances based on dire need have been and can be forged, but any galactic wide coming together of the races you mentioned goes against almost everyone of each races goals (except maybe the Tau and Eldar ).

But imagine if you will a united forces of "good" (I use that term very loosly) were to attack Orks everywhere they could..Orks a race that thrives on conflict, would be like lighting billions of fires and encouraging the flames..not to mention making the Orks amazingly happy that their enemies came to them for a change. , and may cause the emergance of the greatest Ork leader ever seen.
And thats just the Orks..tyranids may indeed require everyone to even have a chance of beating them..its all galaxy destroying threats in the 41st mil.

Its just not in style of this setting to have huge farreaching alliances, and the Emperor would scowl most greatly

And I will say it first..NOT GRIMDARK!

Seeing as you've crucially prefixed your question with the all-important "what if..." I shall oblige you my (speculative) answer;

Basically, it's the galaxy's only chance in hell of ever getting any better. An alliance between, let's say the more reasonable races, (IoM, Eldar, Tau, some Necrons maybe?) even if temporary, could go a long way to actually breaking the stalemate and decay against the Orks, 'Nids and Chaos incursions. Once all the folks that just want to burn, nom, and kill everything are sent packing, then at least the rest can start killing each other for the more civilised reasons of conquest, power and wealth...

Just set the orks to fight the Nids and leave them both alone. Neither will ever win, but the war would consume all of the resources of both sides for the foreseeable future.

That's two.

Regular SM can handle daemons and chaos; two more.

This leaves IG to take on DE. Which is the only real choice given DE's method of strike and fade away. Basically the only defense is by having units already in place.

The other ( good in your coalition, however on the extermination list of the IoM): Tau and eldar are relatively small and weak. The tau "empire" could be rolled if the IoM bothered to dedicate the right resources to it. And the Eldar... Also small, but ultimately ignorable.

The "forces of order" have generally been considered to be the Imperium, Eldar, Tau, basically the "nicest" or at least most tolerable races of 40k that wouldn't turn everything to gak. It wouldn't make a very big difference on the status quo overall, though the Newcrons lost a lot of their evil vibe so maybe you could count them too.

The 40k universe is not an intelligent one. None of these races are smart or tolerant enough to find a diplomatic solution to form a standing alliance. To tickle your fancy, if it ever occurred, it would mean that the fundamental anti-xenos nature of the IoM would be gone and so too would the IoM. The Eldar only enter into alliances of convenience as most races interfere with their plans- or even slow them down, so really, the only explanation of an alliance is if the Tau conquered enough of the galaxy for the other two broken races to concede to the "Greater Good."

If this happened: Tau would get warp technology and the Eldar may be able to slowly repopulate in the protection of the Tau empire. The SoB along with many facets of the IoM would vanish in a series of brutal civil wars as the IoM would lose faith in the Imperium and the God-Emperor. SM's would once again slaughter each other, most notably the Black Templars, the Grey Knights, and Marauders as they cling to the blind faith of the God-Emperor and his Imperium. Demons would spring forth in untold numbers as the Ecclesiarchy collapsed. Vast regions of the Imperium would fold. Cadia would likely be crushed from the continued intolerance of Xenos. The Emperor would die. The Astronomicon would fail, throwing humanity into darkness. And countless trillions of human souls would be lost to demonic possession. Those saved by the Eldar would learn to navigate the warp as they do. What remained of humanity would face a choice, join the Xenos, or die fighting for their dead Emperor. Little of humanity would remain inside the stewardship of the Tau/Eldar empire as Chaos bursts forth from the Eye, to meet a void where their eternal enemy had once been. Orks would come to replace the vast Imperium seperating Chaos from the Great Devourer. Terra would be lost and the Imperium would be no more. Humanity's struggle would be futile as the galaxy burned in a final slaughter - the endless rabble of Chaos would ravage the ceaseless Ork onslaught, simultaneously butchering the unstoppable advance of the Tyranid swarms. Unheeded by humanity's efforts, the Necron's would begin to systematically reunite their great Empire, and exterminate all life from the stars. Preoccupied by the tides of Chaos and warp energies, the Dark Eldar would hunt what remained of their kin. As the rage of galactic battle crashed across the ruins of the Imperium, the alliance would realize it's massive error in judgement as it found itself caught in the middle of a war it did not have the resources to survive.

Nothing could save an alliance that would ultimately weaken all three parties. It would mean the certain extinction of humanity, the Eldar, the Tau, and possibly the rest of the galaxy.

So no, we are not likely to see a lasting alliance between any of these factions.

To get rid of chaos the entire Imperium would need to be whacked, thus starving the chaos gods.

So Crons, Nids and Tau VS Imperium VS ChaosVS Eldar
The Eldar would variously help the Imperium and maybe plan strikes which enable Chaos to succeed in the future.

Orks would join in for laughs.

Another thing everyone is forgetting to mention is the way and speed Orks breed. The only way to truly kill an Ork uprising to burn and cleanse the planet. Since they come from spores that derive from the dead bodies of other Orks, you can't kill them all without and Exterminatus. And if a /single/ spore gets away, the cycle would continue on and on. There is no way to effectively destroy the Orks as a race because of how easily they reproduce and such. But I guess it's possible so long as they IoM is willing to eradicate whole sectors at a time. But then in that case, the Dark Gods would be pleased by all of the destruction and all men who took part in the eradication would be mercilessly attacked by the influence of the Dark Gods, thus creating more Chaos Worshipers.
The only way to stop the forces of Chaos is to somehow destroy the Dark Gods, which would be a literal chance of .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of ever being able to happen.
So there really is no way to destroy any of the races, and since no one knows where Nids come from, they could easily have Trillions upon Trillions more of them and this could be there first wave. So Nids would be basically impossible to destroy either.

Several things:

-To our modern standards ( at least the ones in Western World ) there are no good guys, every race is fighting for it's own domination and supremacy.

-The most powerful political entity in the galaxy: The Imperium of Man, spent so much time in war agaisnt the alien species like Orks or Dark Eldar that is became too xenophobic toward anyone else. And without the Imeprium other races have no real chance to start with.

-Tau are to young and too weak when compared to everyone else, everybody knows that big enough invasion into their empire would destroy them. They would be destroyed by Behemot and Kraken if Imperium didn't destroy them.

-Eldar thinks of all other races "too young" and "primitive" ( even Tau ), so the chance is that they will wok only if there is benefit for them.

-In the end, even if three order races ( they are not good guys but yet again they are forces of order ) make an alliance. It would need them thousands of years to bring back peace to much of the galaxy.

Concession: ain't gonna happened.

The universe has many horrors yet to throw at us. This is not the end of our struggle. This is just the beginning of our crusade to save Humanity. Be faithful! Be strong! Be vigilant!

False, Perlia was cleansed of Orks in the Cain serie, fairly sure Valhalla was cleansed as well, both without exterminatus, the spores are still vulnerable to fire and they won't survive a direct artillery hit.

I think we're missing the point of Orks. It's technically possible to coexist with Orks on the same planet, so long as you make sure to assassinate any aspiring Warboss and are okay with fighting off raids every now and again...

i consider orks to be true good because their innocent really just because they got anger issues dont mean their inheritley evil.
Like in the Destroyer men series by Taylor anderson the grik a race of lizard bird guys that our vicious at birth and trained by their queen as perfect soliders kill everything really. But small tribes break off occasionally and raise their children to be peaceful by breaking them when their young creates this peaceful race. Im sure if the eldar experimented the could breed somewhat peaceful Orks

If Tau, the imperium and the eldar unite -somehow- its pretty much over within a few decades.

Just think of it-the imperium production abilities, with Tau weapon technology and eldar travel technology? (plus all other capability of all three, matched to the ability of the others to copy it.)

Well, HELLO! mass production in a scale nobody can match of the fastest ships in the universe armed with guns that can decimate anything from so far it ceases to be funny.
Nobody will have anything remotely capeable of fighting that.

Demons?
Sure, I'll just have my Tau soldiers that are engineered like a SM, in a battlesuit, with GK equipment wipe them out-they can't even fight back.

Orks? flames solve that problem, especially when you know where they will be before they are there, and you got battlesuit mobility and imperial heavy flamers.

Chaos marines? sure, I'll just send my own space marines, with pulse rifles, never-heating plasma rifles and jetbike-ridden assault marines. did someone mention railgun dreadnauts?

Dark Eldar? yes I am sure the raiders can pack a fight against warp-spider terminators.

Necrons? sure they are though, but so few of them! eldar speed exterminatus fleet on the tomb worlds will make short work of them.

Tyrnids? the only issue. so meny and so quickly evolving you will actually have to teach the marine and eldar warriors how to use all the new weapons the Tau sprout out in masses (and we know, as a historical fact, that tau innovation matches the tyrnid mutation rates, pack that on much better soldiers then puny fire castes...)

In short-that alliance would dominate with ease, but its an impossible alliance, as the IoM would have to fall down from all the things that make him valuable to the alliance before he can accept it.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Yes there are.

The "good" races are pretty insignificant next to the Imperium anyway. Eldar are a fragment of their former selves and Tau are tiny.
