The Codex for Imperial Guard pg39 says five models can fire from the top hatch of the Chimera and my take was that a Heavy Weapons team was a model so could fire from the top hatch.

The new 6th Edition BRB on page 78 second column in Bold says a single passenger can fire out of each fire point so a Heavy Weapons Team which is 2 would not be able to shoot out of the top hatch of the Chimera.

Am I right or missing something.

Thanks for any thoughts

The HWT can shoot out of the chimera.

It is a single model even if it takes up two slots.

Single model with the Bulky special rule, two wounds, and two attacks.

Still a single model.

HWT are as much multiple passengers as Terminators or Ogryn.

Which is to say, they aren't and there's no reason in the rules to believe they are, they just take up more room.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Which leads people to the perfectly reasonable conclusion that they should take up more room in a firing port too... Only they don't.

This often leads to the amusing situation where you fire 3 plasma guns, an autocannon and a ... lasgun at a target. Take that!

The passengers can take turns. The Chimera model doesn't have 5 firing ports, the rules say that it has firing ports that allow 5 models to fire out of it. Maybe the lascannon goes first and while its reloading the others get to poke their heads out .

It always amuses me when people fire HWTs from chimera. I imagine all of the other passengers having to hold the tripod above their heads and give the gunners a boost.

Or you can imagine they brace the gun on the edge of the hatch.

I'd be more worried about how Terminators shoot out of a Chimera. They're not exactly acrobatic in those suits and any stair/ladder made for an IG trooper is sure to give way beneath them.

And this is why you don't think too much on why, better just accept that the rules allow something.

That's tough to do with a mortar.

With mortars they just set the mortar on top of the vehicle by the hatch and stand up to load it.

Quite simple.

Actually, in the US Army, we shoot mortars out of the m113 with no problems. However, nothing else shoots out the hatch.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
