Now that 6th edition has come around does the battle missions expansion still apply to 6th edition. And if so is it worth buying now or is GW planning on releasing an updated version in the near future?

I usually find the Battle missions to be rather lop sided in giving advantages to a certain army. They work just fine in 6th, but I would recommend using them with less experienced players. It gives them a nice boost without you having to nerf your army.

thedarksaint is right, but that doesn't stop them from being fun. Normally, the lopsided is due to the scenario, which can be a refreshing change of pace, even if they aren't even. Hell, in most normal games, one side will have an advantage due to board placement before armies are even taken into consideration.

City Fighting is a fun book that's in desperate need of an update.

Battle Missions are fun and all, but interesting scenarios aren't actually that hard to invent; just make up some wacky victory conditions/deployment rules/army restrictions and you've got a cool scenario of your own.

Cities of Death/Cityfight (I can never remember which one is newer) is definitely in need of an update, yes.

I'd argue that the Battle Missions didn't work in 5th, which would make their functioning in 6th a real shocker. If you're fine with quirky, horribly unbalanced scenarios for fun, narrative games, go for it. If you want something evaluative, skip it.

They still work, and make for fun games.

Each of the missions just needs a little tweak. Namely by adding secondary objectives such as slay the warlord.

As others have pointed out, I wouldn't base a tournament on it but they can make for a fun evening.
