Recently Ive had the urge to buy myself some Lego because its been years and I would love to build some kind of set but when I go looking online all I see is reviews from parents buying for their kids and it makes me think that im just too old to think about buying Lego. Like i should be embarrassed or im weird for wanting a set and its kinda bumming me out, especially after i wanted a set to cheer myself up with some light hearted fun. Think you can be too old to buy lego? (im 21)

1. Stay away from the licenced ones (Star wars, Batman ec.) they're way to expensive

2. I'd recomend the archutecture range if you want to build but not look like a kid

3. No, you can make some awesome stuff when you have lego + disposable income

I don't think you can be too old. The only reason I played with Lego when I was younger (and subsequently filled the attic with the stuff) was because my dad bought it 'for me'. Which roughly meant he wanted to build it so I could play with it and then got annoyed when I started building them for myself. Lego is one of those products that you are only too old for if you think you are too old for it.

You should by Minecraft. It's unlimited space and supply.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

A good friend of mine makes his living on Lego's actually. LegoJANG channel on YT.

he has a blast creating things and exploring the offerings for both kids and adults alike.

I just bought my oldest daughter a BUNCH of Lego Friends stuff (the edition catered to little girls) and she loves it.

On a boat, Trying not to die.

Every year for Christmas, I buy myself some sort of awesome Lego Star Wars thing. It's my little present to myself.

This was going to be my reply!

Personally I sold all my lego (boxes and boxes of the stuff) and bought 40k with the money. I look back every once in a while and wish I still had some but then I regain my senses! I also found that the sets that are coming out recently are overpriced way too much and not nearly as complex. Mainly just figures and a little vehicle that comes with it (I am thinking lego star wars here as that was my favorite). Either that or they are dumbed down versions of old sets with the exception of the $100+ kits which are sometimes really good looking,

But I see nothing wrong with a bit of architectural lego, just stay away from the spongebob or other stupid brands they have now!

While having a pony avatar and sig banner. Clearly age restrictions on items are not a factor.

GW Rules Interpretation Syndrom. GWRIS. Causes people to second guess a rule in a book because that's what they would have had to do in a GW system.

I love lego

Couple years ago I was really tempted to start buying some Star Wars lego stuff, I don't even particularly like Star Wars (don't dislike it, but my favourite one is the one everyone hates ) but I liked the idea of collecting. Some really expensive stuff though.

It was always fun building stuff.

Legos were my entire childhood, but I really don't like them anymore. I just can't look at them and say "that's so cool" anymore.

Anyone been to Legoland?

Went years ago now, family got a free trip through a charity that does stuff for children with a disability my brother has. It was amazing, I can't remember too many details now, but I can remember how much I enjoyed it. Pretty expensive place though last time I looked up their prices, which is a shame.

Edit: I went to Legoland Windsor, I think there is more than one...

Yes, you certainly can be too old, however there is a cure -- children!!

Having children allows you to buy Lego, Scalextric and all sorts of toys which grown men ought not to play with.

Stay clear of Playmobil, though. That is going too far.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I'd draw the line once your arthritis makes it too hard to pull the blocks apart. Until then, remember the C.S. Lewis quote: "When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

If you're into My Little Pony I don't think you should be worried about people thinking you're too old for Lego.

If you want to build/collect some Lego, go for it!

While I recently sold all my old sets from when I was a kid, (mainly due to a lack of space), I still collect the odd Star Wars set - mainly the small ones like the 'Battle Packs' that come with 4 minifigs, and the Lego Minifigures series.
Heck, I love the sets with the Stormtroopers/Scout Troopers! I'm planning on picking up a couple of the newest battle packs just to get multiples!

And in the Minifigures series, I've collected a small Roman Legion just waiting for their glorious Ceasar who's coming in Jan and their Captains who'll be released some time in the late spring/early summer! Those Gladiator minifigs of corse need to be kept well in line! (and entertaining the masses)

I think this is really awesome. However, this is one of the first things I remembered:

The funny thing is that I don't actually think of the ship building hobby as being socially awkward in general. I do find Warhammer to be though.

Exalted and seconded

However since the question is to "buy" not "play with" I'd say you're too old to buy legos when you die. Even if you can't play with them any more you have grandchildren to hook up with awesome toys.

No.

The wife has her collection of lego.
I have mine.

We have friends where the parents have THEIR lego and their kids have their own (the dad is a serious Star Wars lego collector).

I've got meccano going back to the 60s, myself - al those little nuts, bolts and washers taught me a lot.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Nope you're fine.

There are alot of adult lego forums where the guys/girls build some amazing stuff.

prime example
http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=53197&st=600

and the website
http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?act=idx

I happily buy myself lego all the time, mainly colelcting the castles theme and LOTR sets

Though: Maybe it's legos and green army men that sowed the seeds of wargaming for a lot of us? Especially as we got into the more intricate lego models.

I don't know about you all but when I was a spout my room was a battlefield the likes of which only the warriors of valhalla and their perpetual combat has seen. When that wasn't going on, or homework wasn't busily being ignored then lego models of all shapes, sizes and designs were the focus of the day.

So take all that, add in the maturing desire to continue building cool stuff and have army man fights and you get wargaming? Obviously we needed more formal rules then ye olde army man fights, but that's because Timothy Jenkins from a block over always cheated.
