I am using the Inqusistor deamon model as a greater deamon with my CSM. My question is: if I paid for the points, can I use wings even though if I don't model them on? I have some wings but they just look weird on the model. I always liked the idea of a deamon flying around but like a ghost.

If your opponent is ok with this. For friendly games this will prolly be ok.

However it's the opposite in tourneys, most are WYSIWYG.

I'd rather you put wings on it, but I'd play against it anyway.

Tournaments are more strict than I am, generally speaking.

As long as you were clear that it had wings in a casual game or small tournament I would not care much.

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

If it is from Codex: Chaos Daemons, no need for wings, as they get flight, and it specifically says in the codex they don't have to have wings, but not sure of it is from codex:CSM

How would you model Daemonic Flight?

Be sure your opponent can tell the difference from 1 with to 1 without. My friend converted a Jetpack, looks sweet.

Per the rulebook only things required for wysiwyg are power weapons.

And per the social norms of, well, any society in which you'll find a 40k game being played, your opponent is not forced to play against you for any reason.

WYSIWYG is a gaming convention, rather than a rule in the book. Most players will feel more comfortable if you adhere to its principles, though I'd wager that many would be like those who have posted in this thread: as long as there is a way to distinguish between models with and models without the upgrade, then it should be fine.

If that was my model, I wouldn't.

How would you model Bolt on horrors, noxious touch on plaguebearers, fury of Khorne on bloodletters?

I would inform my opponent which ones were which. Generally, there will be one model in one of those squads that will stick out a bit, and that will be the one with the upgrade, but the same idea applies.
How do you really model any Daemonic Gifts?

Ok than, you most likely would not be able to use said model in a Tourney setting.
I'm sure it would be fine in friendly games though.

How would you model "unfathomable arcane powers"?

It helps to have the wings on in friendly games, other games won't allow it, probably.

Remember, this is not a forum for HWYPI, this is for actual rules discussion, and according to the Daemons codex, I do not have to model wings on it, I can simply say he is using those arcane powers mentioned in the rule in the codex to fly.

As long as it can be explained then I'd have no problem with it. However, you say you're using an Inquisitor model? Isn't that a lot smaller than a GD would be in 40k?

I'd have a problem with that, as you're using a model that has advantages of being smaller, so LoS is harder to draw, whilst giving it the same stats as a GD. That'd be off.

That is a good point Kitch.
Some things we need to know from the OP:

Is there a large discrepency in the size of the model you want to use compared to a normal greater daemon?

Is being run from the Chaos Daemons or marines codex. Do CSM still have greater daemons in their book?

Are you intending this as a greater daemon, or a daemon prince?
