After much procrastination and having to spend money on other things like school, I've decided that I'm finally going to get a start with Warmachines. I'm planning on picking up the 2 player starter set to play with a friend, which leads me to a couple of questions. The first is how do the starter armies compare between the two factions? Are Khador and the Proctorate fairly balanced against each other, or does one side have an advantage for whatever reason? The second is what are some good ways of expanding from the 2 player starter set for each faction? The final question is unrelated, but I've noticed that there are specifications of warjacks being 'light' and 'heavy'. Is there any rules difference between light and heavy warjacks, or is it just a fluff designation?

EDIT: Also, what are general tips you can give me about each caster. I believe that it comes with pKreoss and PSorscha, any advice as to how to run them.

They are equal points. That said, I believe pKreoss is a better caster overall than pSorcha. My opinion though.

Menoth has more units on the table. Slight advantage in that.

Menoth wants a full choir unit as TOP priority. The Book and Vassals are pretty desired as well. Khador can go several different directions, my first suggestion would be finding a better caster first that you want.

Heavy warjacks can trample. Lights usually are the only jacks with arc nodes. Other than that, toughness and damage are the main difference.

pKreoss is brutal against upkeep-heavy armies, as he can dispel their buffs, and make it harder to cast them. Turn one, he should pop Lamentation, and slap defenders ward on the Crusader. Although his feat doesn't come into it's own against all the tough, easy to hit Khadorian Starter stuff, it is very useful for the caster kill.

Sorscha meanwhile is a bit more of an assassin. Use fog of War to get close, and then Boundless charge to get the first strike. When an opening appers, she casts boundless charge on herself, uses windrush to position herself, and then charges the enemy caster. She pops her feat, and voila, dead caster.

As for Light/heavy Warjack, there are a few rare rules where it matters (trample, Krayes Iron horse, etc.), but mostly it is just to keep them separate for conversation. Lights tend to be cheaper and more support oriented, while heavies generally just beat face, one way or another.

^ Its eButcher.

I would defiantly tka ethe butcher, Butcher and sorscha offer two very diffenerent ways of play. I have 5 'jacks in my khador collection and sorscha couldn't run 2, so if you want to try new tactics get a new warcaster.

That's what I call him. I've just seen some places where they started refering to the different casters by number and wasn't sure if what the OP might be familiar with.

Thye offical term used is eButcher, but as many warcasters now have 3 models some now refer to warcasters by number

Other way around, actually. The number system is the "official" one. It's the one the PP staff themselves use. The pCaster/eCaster is the fan system.

They are great starter armies, but most of the box stuff isn't considered top tier in the long run. Evenetually you will probably want to expand beyond it into new casters, jacks and units. But for learning you can use the contents for quite some time depending on where you play and how competitive your group is.

Should use "c" for collosal since that is the book they were released with.

3 is the easiest, though.

Technically, 2 out of 4 is half, not most.

And even with Stryker 3, they're balanced at half with Eiryss 3!

I'm still hoping that "Krehorse" catches on for Intercessor Kreoss, it won't.

So how does this look for a 25 point Procterate List?

Kreoss1: (+5)
Crusader 6
Repenter 4
Vanquisher 8
Vassal Mechanik 1
Cinerators (5 men) 8
Choir (6 men) 3
Total = 25

And what about the Khador? The box puts me directly at 20 points, so any suggestions where to go from there?

Hmmm, I would drop the Choir down to 4 guys and change the Vassal Mechanik into a Vassal.

The Vassal is more useful then the Mechanik, and you really won't need a full Choir unit with only 3 Jacks.

For Khador I would get some Widowmakers and/or some Winterguard.
