I'm trying War Room app on iOS and thinking about paying to unloc decks of factions I play, but I'd like to know how this will work exactly.
Once I've unlocked a deck via in-app purchase, it will be accessible even if I'm not logged in? I ask this because here's not USA and it's not unusual being unable to access the internet (no wifi nor 3g). So if the app require I'm logged in to access my paid full decks it could be of no use when I need it.
Already asked to devs, but no-one responded...

Additional query to this, when units are added to an army, do their cards 'appear' in war room? Or do you have to buy 'boosters' with each new release?
|
I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own... |

I can see all my cards offline, and The cards get updated automatically with new releases. Definitely worth the price for a faction.

Thank you very much guys, just unlocked my first deck.
Nice to note that purchasing Mercenaries deck unlocks 'mercenary' Minion cards, too (i.e. Lanyssa Ryssil, Wrong Eye and Snapjaw, etc).

While I feel the app has issues as a list-builder, it's not terrible for purposes of game tracking I found (as long as you use a table and have some power about). And while $60 seems steep for the complete package, I found having all the cards right there to read and research whenever is handy as hell, and costs a fraction of having to get all the books to do it otherwise.
As for how it works, as noted, it works online fine. After you unlock a device, it mostly just checks the server to see if there are updates, but you aren't even automatically logged-in most times.
New models are added the day of their release. This is either the time the physical model comes out, or where it is first published in a PP official writing such as an anthology book or an issue of NQ Magazine. As an example of that, the Warpborn Alpha, Archangel, Rask, and a new Themed list were all lin NQ45. As of their official release date (the last Wednesday of last month) they were up in War Room that day.
This in mind, then, I think we can probably expect such updates with the Afflictor, Warspear Chieftan, and what have you when they finally hit if they are not in the NQ issues.
And stuff.

The app itself is free. You actually pay for decks as a microtransaction. You can either purchase a single deck($7 USD), buy all the Warmachine decks($36 USD), buy all the Hordes decks($30 USD), or buy ALL the decks($60 USD)

Thanks, I think I might stick to the cards themselves, call me a purist but I want to keep away from tech for as long as I can with wargaming (This comment is really hypocritical because I am using tech to talk about Wmhds now, but in game I try to keep it out. Unless im filming a BR )

Also note that each deck has a handful of free unlocked cards (the ones for starter packs plus some other one). So it's well worth trying.
Also, the first purchase unlocks a reference section in alphabetical order, I think it will prove very handy in my next games.

I think it's good as a desk resource. It's sub par as a list builder, especially compared to what iBodger could do for free. Having had two opponents use it for game tracking I wouldn't want to use it for that, It's So Slow and will eat a ton of your clock.

I just wish it had a 'Collection' record keeper thingie. I liked in iBodger you could sort of catalogue what you had.
Come next paycheck I'm definitely going to go for all decks for 60 bucks. I mostly just play Khador and Circle but I like fooling around with lists for other factions.

Having access to the cards in one handy device is worth it to me. But, yeah, shame about the mediocre list building function.

Like i said, the access to cards I think is the important part of the app. The damage tracking isn't terrible, but you should be doing it on at least a tablet, not on a phone. As a list builder it's just not very good though.
Still, as I noted, the cheapest way otherwise to get all the model references is to get every book released in MkII. This is becasue the decks don't have new things intorduced in the Forces books, nor things in Wrath, Domination, Colossals or Gargantuans, nor all the NQ Themed Forces.
So for the 15ish books at $35 a pop, that can total to....lots. About $525. You can get it discounted somewhere, but if you want to know what all does what, you build a library to do it.
For wanting to the crunch on everything right in one space, that is not a bad way to spend $60 I think. I think PP really would of not gotten so much bad blood in the direction of War Room had they vaunted that and the game tracking thing smore than the list building capabilities, personally.
And stuff.

I've not yet gotten over all my initial anger at War Room to purchase decks for it yet. The problems I've had were;
1.) Them killing iBodger months before they released their Not A List Building app.
B.) Repeatedly pushing back the release date over several months.
III.) Then finally releasing a product full of bugs and that wasn't as good as the free one they made get taken down, while charging for theirs.
The whole thing was just handled So Poorly in my eyes.

If it's not released yet, I don't use it. I've never been into proxying. I'm not saying that they shouldn't have made War Room, but they shouldn't have shut down the best alternative, either. I want a list builder, not an electronic version of things I already own. Hell, I'd pay upwards of $20 for a PP version of iBodger. Maybe more, I DID buy Army Builder...

I don't find using it as a damage tracker is slow at all.
I used it all Warmachine Weekend (okay, maybe it wsa like 8
games worth) and had zero difficulty with my time outside of the
usual issues.
I was using it on an ipad though. I wouldn't try to play a game with
it on a phone.

Yeah, should of been more clear. I meant the physical decks don't include all those releases. War Room has everything in it. It is actually, to me, fairly convenient on that regard adn I tend to check it now and again for brainstorming or rules referencing lots.
Platuan4th wrote:Perhaps, but I have cards for doing all of that. Why would I waste my time constantly waking up my phone/tablet to track damage when I can just use the physical ones?
This is a matter of effeciency. I kind of was forced into using it yesterday (I couldn't find a few cards and so loaded it up) and I found that in some areas it is kind of a lateral shift. This depends a lot on how fast you are at finding things on the table and marking damage there. Not saying it's the best thing since sliced bread, but just a different skill set and item I find. Not going to really disagree that it is not something to sell it on though.
Platuan4th wrote:And honestly, having access to cards for things I don't own isn't something I need or really want. Seems again to just be different takes on things. I play a lot of tournaments and things. I like knowing what I am up against and so if I see soemthing rising a lot in the meta, I make a point to be damned sure what it is. I also kind of like proxying, since I want to see how something plays so I can just fit it in when it's out. This being all said, I fully admit I am in the game part more than the hobby one. I get other folks to paint my stuff for me even, so yeah. <_<

Like I noted, I think the issue PP has had in htis is that War Room has never been and in the forseeable future never will be an iBodger alternative. The handling of the situation is them seeing a false dichotomy. Had they sold it at what it actually does that iBodger doesn't (card reference program, game tracker), and treat iBodger as it actually was, something different, than I think lots of folks on both sides would of been happy. People would still get updated iBodger to use, and a nice collection manager to boot. PP would of had less folks overtly hostile to War Room since they weren't really creating a competing product.
Instead they kind fo just screwed the pooch as best they could. Though in general, seeing as how their video game is going, I think PP really needs to be a bit more scrupplous with picking who writes their software.
And stuff.

I think to me it is an example of the game/model thing. If I want ot know what Winterguard do, I look them up to see what htey do. I have no intent really ever of playing Khador. I would rather not be taken by surprise and stomped by something I didn't know the mechanics of though.

Also, Fowardkommander isn't very good about fixing flaws. For example, Ossrum's Tier 3 requirement states that it needs 2 or more Solos. Forward Kommander will not accept Brun Cragback as a fulfillment for the Tier despite the fact that Brun IS a solo. I've informed them twice, still not fixed after months.
