Subject: Angry Marines (Black Templars) for fun allies

One of the armies I play is Codex: Space Marines, of which I have about 3,000 points. I like the list I have for them, but I want to cut out about 600 points and throw in some Black Templar allies for fun. I've always loved the look of the BT, and I already have the Codex and Emperor's Champion model. I was hoping for them to be good objective takers/contesters/holders and came up with this.
I'd appreciate feedback and whatnot on everything. I've only seen the BT's in action once, so I don't really know if this works or not.
HQ
Emperor's champion 125 pts
-Vow: Suffer not the unclean to live
Troops
Crusade squad- 155 pts
-5 Initiates w/ Bolt pistol and Chainsword, Grenades and crusader seals
-5 Neophytes with shotguns
Crusade squad- 155 pts
-5 Initiates w/ Bolt pistol and Chainsword, Grenades and crusader seals
-5 Neophytes with shotguns
Heavy Support
Vindicator- 159 pts
-Power of the Machine spirit, Smoke launchers, searchlights
I figure the crusader seals will help me get across the field faster, and since the rest of my C:SM army is fairly mechanized it shouldn't pose a problem to have footsloggers. I like the idea of the vindicator since the Machine Spirit will let it zip around the field and blast a greater range of targets.
Please let me know where I've botched my strategy, or if I'm not taking things into account.
Thanks!

The allied detachment would need to be at least 750 for the emperor's champion's vow to take effect
If you're going for the angry aspect, Accept any challenge may be the vow you're looking for as it gives rage now.
following that aesthetic why not arm the neophytes with BP/CCW for full CC gearing
a power fist in the squads may be useful as they cannot get taken in challenges because they aren't characters
i'd recommend extra armour on the vindi to stop stunned results taking away its mobility
other than that it sounds like a fluffy list that should be fun to fight with and hell to fight in CC

Templars - 4500pts
Excoriators - 1500pts
Catachan 1074th- 2000

I totally missed that part of the codex about the vows.
As a follow up question, are power armored sword brethren squads any good? Or are they a waste of points. I was thinking about infiltrating them, but then they wouldn't be able to assault and would sort of sit in the open.

If you have a Champion, you have the vow perks. You need a champion above 750. The point says under 750 he is optional and if you dont take him, you dont get perks. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, PA sword brethren are no good. Too expensive for specialty troop (that cant score). Only purpose for them is minimum squad las plas with infiltrate.

Taking swoard brethern are a waste of points. They are expensive base, and dont add much to the army.
What are you looking for the Black Templars to do? Be a small assaulty force added to your primary detachment? Look in to Chaplains to be added to the troop squads. Also, Tech Marine, full servo harness, and then throw on another power axe. 4 axe attacks, and 2 PF attacks. Plus Chappy, re-roll to hit on the charge. Sick combo.
