What the title says and of course with the big E roaming the stars again and the imperial truth reinstated. If yes/no please state why, cheers

Sort of. I'm not particularly tired of the setting, but I want to see some more justifiable reasons for space marines existing.
Say the Emperor "dissapears" from the throne, all of a sudden the space marine chapters have a clear objective: find the Emperor.
Or the big E finally kicks the bucket. Then the space marine chapters act as lords or kinghts over there little sectors of space as humankind slowly dies out.
Or the Emperor returns, the the space marines go off on some crusade to claim the galaxy.
I don't care how, I just want to see some more believable reasons for space marines to be around.

I'd love to see the Big E reborn, just as Nids and Necrons really get things swinging and the CSM finally get a Black Crusade with some serious long term conquests rolling (maybe Lorgor or Angron leads this one... or both). Big E gets Guilliman, Lion, or Vulcan up and running (just one).
As he declares the Imperial Truth, 1/3 of the Imperium declares him a fraud and a pretender trying to stop the Imperial Cult and its Great Crusade +1.
Church vs Empreh vs Chaos vs Crons vs Nids... with Orks and Eldar doing the same awesome stuff they've always done
Still grim, but moves the storyline and gets some of the timeline moving again.

well i really like space marines being the theme of warhammer 40000 it just really has a nice vibe for me. i would say it would be nice to watch humanity die and then have the eldar look over at the humans long after extinct and them being like "see we told you" but any way the game goes i always really like it i like the horus hersey so it all really goes together for me.

I'd like to see it crash and burn, with the IOM splitting up into embattled smaller empires of humans.
GIves a better justification for hot SM on SM action, and still allows for humans to expand a bit beyond the endless 'for the emperor' stuff.

I have a different vision of the New Imperium. I believe there was some fluff about the 'Blank Times'(?). It was some distant point in the future that even the Big E couldn't divine and to me that sounds like some unknown factor comes along that defies even the Eldar's ability to predict the future. This unknown source/individual/organization starts up a Great Campaign v.2 and throws a monkey wrench in the status quo. An STC is found, or war zones are nuked/cleansed of life and the resources are sent elsewhere. Half believe it's the Emperor himself, the others Horus Reborn (y'know cause long ago legends and stuff are so accurate).
Whatever it is shakes the beliefs of the faithful and faithless, IMHO it's a Saint that's more akin to a Primarch in power and sheer charisma. Which is also all the more reason to think it heretical, a plot by Daemons, xenos trickery etc.

I would have to agree with ascalam. If the IOM feel apart, the sm chapters would have a decent porpose. They would fight to protect their sectors and the humans within them, or. Turn to chaos, and kill everything in sight. You could have the Dark angles fighting the ultramarines for resorces and stuff. It would make the back story much more fun.
|
"Archon Yulliptidon sat apon a throne made of polished glass, which gleamed with magnificence in the rays of the dying suns, beautifully suspended above the the many razor sharp peaks that where Commorragh. The archon held within his hands a a delicate pyramid of sculpted crystal, from which emitted a faint glow, an echo of the soundless screams of pain belonging to countless tortured souls forever trapped within. The room in which the archon sat in was something like a throne room, but displayed apon the walls where helm of every color, but all the same in size and shape. Some bore eagles on their foreheads, and others still contained the decapitated heads of their previous owners. Two huge, beautifully carved iron double doors, engraved with intricate runes of pain and suffering, opened at the far end of the room, to reveal a tall, elegant dark eldar warrior, clad in armor made from bone and flesh. "lord Yulliptidon, you asked for my presence?" Said the arrival, " to what do I owe the pleasure?". The archon raised his elongated head, skin as pale as a full moon, eyes as vivid as a horrible nightmare. " I did not ask for you, Thrayon, I ordered your presence. Do not think to much for your self, for truly, you are not much past a feral that one would find on the streets. As for why I have ordered you to my palace, it is because their is a task that I wish you to preform. I wish you and you kabal to cleanse the imperial out fort of Sargosain Gastienagan." Thrayon was both aghast and interested at what the archon had just said. "Such a task would stretch my kabal to its limits, only a great reward would be enough to do a deed like this." Yulliptidon was outraged by the the proposal of a "great reward" by Thrayon, but did not let his anger show, hiding it with a cold smile that hid his evil intentions surprisingly well. The archon was was famous for never telling a lie in his life, but was very fond of veiled double speak, and this was no exception. "Do not worry, Thrayon, you shall receive what you deserve." Thrayon, happy with this outcome, left to carry out Yulliptidons task. Little did he know what was coming. Thrayon had done a thousand evil deeds, and what he deserved was a horrible death equal to to all those he had caused. Yulliptidons smiled. He was going to have fun."

Totally agree, but alot of you have made some good points to. 30k is cooler than 40, and second a crusade with the big E at its head, him going missing and the blank times are all good as others. Ooo what to choose, what to choose.

I just want the story to get past 999999.M41.
Abaddon's 13th Black Crusade isn't a flop and he manages to break through the Cadian Gate. Necron tomworlds begin to break open en masse. The Eldar make a final stand. The Tau suck. Orks WAAAGH!!. gak gets real.
But the Tyranids? Suddenly they get confused and start flopping around. Why? For some reason, they can't see Terra anymore. Something's happened. The Astronomicon isn't shining anymore and everyone is getting lost in the warp. A Custodes reveals himself to be an Alpha Legionnaire that finally put an end to the Emprah's misery. As he's getting executed he just smiles and says "Good luck."
Psykers everywhere suddenly have visions of the Emprah's rebirth, and all the Spess Mehreens and Inquisitors launch a Greater Crusade to find him.
Or at least just get to M42.

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."
Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan

The primarchs had impressive healing powers, it's been 10,000 years so I think he's ok now just trapped
Bill wipes away the grime and rust of a thousand years off a forgotten guage on the golden throne and turns to his mate.
'Ere Fred, what's this do?'
'I don't know Bill? But what ever it's measuring seems to be full though'
'There's a button next to it, but I can't make out what the plack above it says. You think I sould push it?' Fred casts a fugitive look around the room, seeing no one in the throne room looking in their direction, he gives his friend the nod. Bill stretches out his quaking hand and pushes the button.
At first nothing happened, then klacksons began to wail and the throne begin to shake as cabals hissed and disconected from the mighty figure at it's heart. A inner light started to build within the figure that soon hid his features as it grew and lit the room. The custodes had acted in an instant and had quickly had the two medtechs on the ground with their throats bared to their spears. Automatically Appended Next Post: 'You fools, what have you done' Shouted the captain of the custodes and made a move to lift his spear for a killin blow.
'Let them rise' Said a voice like soft rain but with the edge of cold steel.
When the custode looked up he instantly prostrated himself on the ground followed by his brethren. 'Rise' Said the voice again, and the warriors hesitently did as they were bade by their lord, and master. Automatically Appended Next Post: Come on GW you can do it

No. Because every time I hear "will the empire rise again?" All I hear in dixy accents is "THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN! YEEEEHAAWWWWW!"
And as a guy who lives in Kentucky and hears that crap occasionally, it pains me
As for the emperor getting off the throne, there's no way that's happening. He's a rotted husk of a man now. Every drawing they have of him is a skeleton with some beef jerky and wires wrapped around him. He isn't getting off that thing anytime soon.

I'd be partial to a reborn Emperor inheriting a shattered empire.
There's no denying that if he were to be reborn, get off the throne, rejuvenate, whatever, that his views and the Imperium's views are somewhat....at odds.
While some what flock to his banner, in particular the AdMech and a good chunk of the Inquisition (not Hereticus mind you, I don't think they'd care for the Imperial Truth), the Imperium as a whole would largely crumble, some following various Ecclesiarchs, some following Astartes (ala Ultramar), some following the AdMech, some turn to Chaos, a lot just get destroyed by this, that or the other thing and so on.
Not only would it be plausible, but it would be enjoyable, and could move away from the "excessive grimdark," into just plain "grimdark," but you'd have, at least, a speck of hope.
But then, I'm partial to the underdogs, so seeing a small cadre of Space Marine chapters, some Imperial Guard, the Grey Knights and some hardened inquisitors against a galaxy falling apart with the Big E and maybe a primarch or two with small forces at their command would be great; a fool's errand, but hey, it worked once before.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.
