Ok, so, I was wondering, when Terminators deep strike right in front of you, and you ONLY have these two things available, loads of chimeras and 3 vendettas (there are other things in there, but they are irrelevent).

Is it viable to use the chimeras' maneuverability to run away from the terminators and depending on what other threats there are on the table, take shots at them and wait for the vendettas come in to take out these bastards.

OR hypothetically, would that be a bad idea?

PLEASE, only once the chimera/ vendetta combo has been discussed do you mention bringing in something else, too many threads I have read where people have left the original post.

IMO, stand and shoot, whats the max move on a chimera, 18 inch flat out?, unless you are a few inches away and can go 18" you can get away that turn, but if the termies keep following and following you wont be able to get out without getting assaulted next turn

Terminators are slow, you can trivially keep range from them with chimeras if you wish.
Even assuming those termies DS right next, you can flat out to 18" away where you're 100% safe from assaults. After that, moving between 6"-12" will be enough to keep you safe.

If you have anything worth while in the chimeras it's best to just sit there and shoot. Plasma vets will chew them up.

Also not mentioning anything else is rather silly, I highly doubt your army consists entirely of mech vets in chimeras/vendettas. Demolishers are amazing deep strike deterrents, and I'd be surprised if you didn't field at least one Russ. Similarly executioners can plough through deep striking squads.
If you are running a mech vet list AV:12 things like Medusae will be great too.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

termies are good, I give you that. their 2+ save is great and for that reason I have 10 cc termies, 5 normal termies and a librarian TH/SS.
however, way too often I roll a 1 on armor saves. I dont know if these chimera's you have are filled with bored guardsmen, but if you can pump 60 lasgun shot into those termies they will go down, especially if you can support that with some heavier fire i.e. your chimera's guns or something further away (LRBT?)
I try to fight scary units with exactly the opposite:

scary HQ? use loads of infantry to tie him up and kill it with loads of attacks

scary blob of infantry? tie them up with some cheap, durable unit you may have

so if I would get termies in front of me, I'd mass fire them instead of putting my almost-exact-the-same-elite-unit in front of them

Weight of fire is the answer. If there is infantry in the Chimeras then dump at least one of the squads out to get between the Terminator squad and your vehicles and then fire lots of stuff at them. You can the use the following turns to maneuver away from the terminators (assuming they have survived) and watch them try to keep up

Or keep your units within a few inches of each other and watch as that expensive terminator unit mishaps.

What kind of terminators are we talking about here? Do they have cyclone missile launchers? Thunder Hammers? Both? 3++ invul or 5++ invul...That sort of makes a difference.

This. Unless the chimeras are empty, pick a squad to claim the emperors glory (ie, die so the rest may fight on). String out the heroic squad to block the path of the terminators, and then shoot the piss out of them. With an infantry squad in the way, you should be able to stay in rapid-fire range for the rest of the occupants.
In a real game, your opponent will just shoot the screen with another unit, opening a gap to the chimeras. In such a case, drop 2+ squads and back away shooting.

The plasma vets inside the Chimeras shoot their plasma guns and toss their demo charges and your opponent wonders why they even bothered to take the terminators out of their case.

(Or you glue a big gun on a couple Chimeras, call them Medusas, and make your opponent cry.)

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

If you only have Chimeras/vendettas

Yes, FLat out keeping AV 12 facing Termies so they can't get lucky if they need to

This is pretty much what I've been thinking, (thank you all for confirming the viability of the strategies that I thought would work.

I didn't say that I had exclusively Chimeras, but for this thread, I was more asking, in a hypothetical situation how to deal with terminators with these particular units.
I would agree that lists with only one type of thing are looking at a bit of an uphll battle. Balance is key!

You know this depends entirely on what the board looks like and objectives and what you're trying to achieve and how many chimeras are in range and how many dudes are inside them etc.

But yeah if you've got plasma vets in a chimera they're gonna get a lot of shots off:

6 shots when you shoot the termies
6 overwatch shots when they assault the chimera
0-6 shots next turn when you shoot them again
0-6 overwatch shots when they assault the vets

So consider that maybe.
