Does anyone know a good alternative to Coteaz's eagle arm? I would like to run the model but I have never liked the eagle. Thanks for suggestions!

Well since the eagle grants him a shooting attack, I suppose you could give him a gun instead. Otherwise, you could give him a regular arm and put some other variety of animal companion on his base with him (attack dog? baby space monkey? particularly vicious chicken?).

I think the bird can be removed with little to no difficulty. Add an open hand or pointing finger and preted he's casting one of his psychic powers.
