Is it good for Necrons to take allies or should you just play a pure Necron army?

While under the new rules and fluff they are allowed to I would feel very bad about doing so, I loved the old fluff.

As it goes if it works with how you envisage your tomb world then go ahead!

Looky a blog thing of progress and stuff

necrons really benefit well from some psyker defense but other than that, they pretty much got everything else covered. May consider something with deep strike powers or super long range shooting, but that's about it.

Necrons love allied Orks. 40-60 cheap, Fearless bodies clogging up the board can protect your back line, grab central objectives and is very capable in combat, unlike your normal Troops.

This. I love nothing more than mixing Orks and Necrons. It's incredibly effective and can be done in a variety of ways.

Orks and GK are both excellent allies

As was stated before, orks make a nice addition to a necron force. Brutish cc-thugs that favor numbers over skill with a large amount of customization (or is that kuztomizin'?) really fit a niche the necrons can't fill themselves. Add a Big Mek armed with a Shokk Attak Gun with some Lootas and you also get a vicious long-range unit as a bonus (it's just a tad on the expensive side).
And, fluffwise, you can defend it even. It's not that your dynasty is friends with some unwashed orks; your nemesor likely just used some mind-shackle nano-scarabs to control a local ork warlord and expend him and his troops as disposable rabble/troops.

My Projects:
Order of Holy Illumination Showcase
The Anuphal Dynasty (Showcase WiP Background stories)
The Lady Elizabeth
AOS: Hedonites and Clans Skryre
Blood Bowl: YBL: You Be Lunch (skaven) and Hugz Time! (nurgle) (Showcase)

Awesome but what kind of units would you take if you play Necrons and have orks as allies?

Remember! Tesla carbines are practically Zapp guns, a weapon with which orks are already quite familiar. Indeed, death by electrical discharge is well-documented among the ork ecclesiarchy.

So true.
My plan is something like 40-60 boyz with maaaaaybe a force field Big Mek. Keep 'em cheap so they don't diminish your nifty cron stuff, and your good to go.
