Sacrifice to the Dark Gods

So I'm making a 40k Chess set (Imperials v. Chaos), and I have most of the pieces planned out. However, I'm having trouble deciding on a suitable "Queen" for either side. Or, I could use the models I have picked for a king, but then I'd be out one of them.

Anyways, so you have an idea of what I've got so far:

IMPERIALS/WHITE:
Pawns = Imperial Guardsmen
Rooks = Terminators
Knights = Assault Marines
Bishop = Librarians
Queen =
King = Chapter Captain

CHAOS/BLACK:
Pawns = Cultists
Rooks = Terminators
Knights = Raptors
Bishops = Sorcerers
Queen =
King = Chaos Lord

Open to suggestions. =D

I think chaplains and dark apostles would be better bishops

I rule the realms of the elder magics
1225 points
1005 points ( so I bought a dark vengeance set and a couple three other packs

Maybe move the Captian down to queen and use a chapter master for king? Or a chapter champion/veteran 1st sarge for queen. For chaos maybe a warp smith for queen. Or move the chaos lord down and promote a DP to king?

This. And then you can move the librarian/sorcerer to queen.

You might also consider using basic bolter marines as pawns, rather then IG/cultists.

Why not a SoB model?

St Celestine for queen, I'd say. Or female Witch Hunter.

For Chaos I'd go with Masque.

i'd go with the chaplain Dark Apostles for Bishops and the sorcerous ones for queens.

Move your current Kings down to Queens and use a special character for the Kings - Marneus vs Abbadon?

Oh someone else is doing this too! I've got a zombies vs survivors game planned, with a supermarket parking lot chess board, fighting dogs as survivor pawns, evil scientist as zombie king etc....

Keep in mind that the king should be a "weak" character, as he only moves one field and has to be protected.
And the queen should be female.... after all, shes a queen... how about some SoB's for imperial and something slaneeshy for schaos?

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

Nah.... they'd all kinda look the same. Pawns have to be distinctiveley weaker, so guardsmen and cultists work really well. Also, rooks should be a bit more massive, so termies are good there I think

Thats why you give them different sized bases. So you would start out with Pawns only getting a little base all the way up to the Kings getting a big honking base.

Although what about this
Rooks - Techmarines w/full servo harness or Warpsmith. Both are big and rook like
Knights - Marines on bikes.

i like the idea of assault marines being
knights, because they both jump and
terminators as rooks because they are
just like a wall

Techmaries for Rooks sounds nice
Bikes could be bishops, I think.... They can race all across the board, after all....

still, I don't think space marines are suitable for pawns.... pawns represent the lowest kinds of infantry (in german they're called peasants, haha) So while the marines get to do all the "specialized" fun stuff, the guardsmen just march forward.

Honestly though i love this idea. Paint them to look like stone, old and weathered. Love it.

Thanks for posting

Hopefully one day i'll have an army!

I have got to agree with the general consensus here, make bishops into chaplains/apostles and then make the queens as librarians/sorcerors...
