So a while back I came up with the idea to make my own chaos spawn for my CSM army since the current spawn models don't feel like they came from actual marines. I wanted to make a model that had all of the crazy of a spawn, but at the same time was still clearly once a marine. In several of the books I have read characters have talked about being able to identify who turned into the spawn or got possessed and still being able to see identifying traits. So here is what I came up with. My main worry is that it isn't quite as bulky as the regular spawn model. What do you all think? Are the two close enough in size where I should go ahead and make a squad of these?
( PS the converted model is standing on cork to offset that the actual spawn has a layer of cork on its base)

I agree with your fluff logic - many spawn would still bear recognisable traces of their former bodies, especially shortly after their transformation.
Your model looks fine to me. You could easily bulk out the shoulders a little by adding discs of plasticard or putty at the shoulder joint, i.e. between the torso and arms.

Nice conversion work there, definitely close enough to be recognizable in both size and tone.
edit: BTW, having done a few similar conversions, terminators are a really good base for spawn, and with that GS skill, you should easily be able to chop and GS up some cheap AOBR/DV ones to fit.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am planning on moving forward with this project once the new year rolls around (and the craziness of the holidays ends), keep an eye out for some WIP pics.
