So I go to Forge World to see what is new and they have a new policy.

You must accept a third party to put information on your computer. WHAT! Never going to happen.

Anyone else not ok with this?

It's part of EU legal now - and for FW to sell into the EU, they had to abide by it (doesn't matter if you don't live there, they have ONE website for all.). It's just the same cookies they used to install. Difference is now, it's an opt-in system. You accept them in return for being allowed to use the site.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Yep EU ruling is you now have to physically accept cookies so sites can't collect data without your approval. If you click no most sites will still work abet with limited functionality.

Do you auto login on dakka? On anywhere? Does dakka remember which threads you have visited by showing them as a different colour? Does any site you visit?

Then those sites are also saving cookies on your computer. By the way, every site under the sun does this, and have been doing it since circa 1989... It's no big deal and it's only because a new EU regulation is forcing them to have the disclaimer that you even noticed it.

I would google "cookies" if I where you. Would both wet your appetite and inform you.

MJ - first off:

Not CPU. HDD / SDD. They are storing COOKIES on your computer

Try radio buttons for a poll next time.

It isnt a new policy, it is the EU e-Privacy directive, which went "live" May this year which *requires* sites which uses cookies to collect information to telll you they are doing so, and give you an option to disallow their use.

There has been no change to the information they are collecting, you are just now aware of it. This is a good thing

The 1990's called. They'd like their cookie paranoia back.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

seems we get one of these threads every month or so, similar to the WTF price increase threads from people mistakenly on the AU site

Yeah. This whole "cookies" thing has been on pretty much all sites you need to log-in to since...well...a long time...

All this is changing is that FW has to actually tell you they are doing it now
