So, my horribly evil buddy has started to run griffon spam with his IG. It differs how he does it but theres allways atleast three of them and basically they do all the work while the rest of the army just stays back and protects them. And they are totally devastating! They smash my trukks if I trukk spam, they annihilate my boys if I green tide. I need to take them out and as fast as possible. What do you all feel is a good counter to barrage madness?

Be glad he didn't take manticores.

There was a thread like this recently. The general consensus is that attack copters and nob bikers will sort them out. Although it will be an uphill struggle. IG are very good against orks with the right list.

Yep, have to agree there. The griffons will be a lot less effective against bikes (especially nob bikes) than trukks or boyz. Then on turn two the bikes are right up in his troops. Dakkajets will rip open that side/rear AV 10, as well as troops.
As for the big gunz, anybody tried running lobbas against a list like this? My gut instinct is they won't be super effective, but they can indirect fire with the same range as the griffon. They're good against troops hiding behind aegises, walls, vehicles etc since cover saves are from the blast template center. Against the griffons, they strike the side armor, which is only AV 10. Unfortunately, it still takes about nine hits from lobbas to hope to glance a griffon to death. Three units of three would have a decent chance of getting a griffon or two over the course of the game, but that strikes me as pretty points inefficient. Just a thought.

A deffwing also won't much care about griffons either.

Plus, you can also spread your boyz way out as well. Really, the only ork army that should have serious problems with this is a trukk rush army.

Lootas have the same range as them, dakkajets can glance them (or kill them on side armor) bikers of both kinds will ignore half the wounds outright (as well as being able to spread out extremely well) and battlewagons could close the distance as all a griffon could hope for is glances. Outflanking big shoota deff koptas can do a number on IG artillery as well since the open topped makes them explode every 1/3 pens.

Griffons are practically tailor made to devestate hordes, and they excel at their job. Against orks they're brutal. But if he's trying to hide in his deployment, you can easily beat him on objectives once you kill his artillery. He won't be able to press the attack, and then all you need to do is hold a couple of objectives and beat back his weak counterattack.

Battle Wagon Spam.
AV14 front will effectively ignore anything S8 or less.
AV12 sides will effective ignore griffons.

Warboss in MegaArmor
Big Mek with field
2x5 Mega Nobz (one unit as troops, both with battle wagons)
3x20 boyz with nob
3x battle wagons

That's 1500 points, leaving you some points to buff in some more options or additional units.

Basically you flat out turn 1, turn turn move up 6, disembark 6 and charge in.
12" forward, 18" of movement turn 1, 12" movement turn 2, and 2D6" assault. You're survivors should be all over him turn 2.

If 3 out of 5 battle wagons make it, you should be doing pretty well. 4 hull points makes it very tough to glance them down.
