Page 4-5 of the new Dark angel codex is some artwork of Hive fleet behemoth battling it out with the Dark Angels. On page 5 on the top right is a flying tyranid with a Stranglethorn Cannon. Now it could just be a Flyrant but it's a little too big considering it is dwarfing the Darkshroud and the back part of its torso looks a little different and it does not have the horn on its head like the Hive Tyrant. Now what it has going against it is it doesn't have any spore mines on or near it and it looks nothing like the artwork from the Tyranid codex however considering the picture in the Tyranid codex looks so ugly and Tyrannofex got a drastic change from its artwork could the harpy have to? Only bringing this up because of the flyer wave rumor

If anyone could post a picture of the flying nid on page 5 to show others that would be great! (showing a tiny little bit of artwork isn't against the rules is it?)

That's the suspected harpy on the top right. Notice how it dwarfs the Darkshroud. Also behind it on the ground is a Trygon killing a Land Speeder for a good size reference.

That thing is too large to be Toughness 5...

The point about the Tyrannofex getting an art redesign is a good reference for this though; GW could well re-model their idea for the Harpy (and release some improved rules for it in WD to increase sal... erm, increase it's effectiveness).

And it would totally work on me too! When it comes to Tyranids my wallet loses all self control.

I really hope it's either a Dual kit, or the Harpy gets improved stats. Even as a FMC it's really not that useful as it is now.

Even if it kept T: 5 for some reason, if it got a points decrease or much better weaponry I'd take it. 170 points for a S: 9 blast is just not worth it.

Or a strength and toughness increase. That'd cover it too.

An Anti-Vehicle option with Impaler Cannons would be nice.

I'd love Impaler Cannons on a Harpy. That'd make them phenomenal anti-flyers.

Just thinking about it:
-Don't need LOS, so you could shoot behind the model.
-S: 8 two shots will put some serious hurt on flyers.
-Doesn't allow the flyer to Jink and avoid it.

Don't need anti-aircraft on the ground if you've got a Harpy in the air!

; harpy is depicted with wing-mounted guns in it's art, much like harridan.

giving a flyrant impalers would be broken as hell. Even the few AV12 fliers would go splat to that easily since those things practically DONT miss anyway (talking bout the flyrant not the gun).

I don't think anyone here said we should give a Flyrant, an Impaler Canon. An Anti-Air/Vehicle version of the Harpy...

Also, with two shots, and BS3, you have a 50% to miss, then on an AV12, you have a 50% to do nothing, with a 16% chance to Glance, and a 33% to pen. Then on a Pen, with AP4, you have 16% to actually wreck the vehicle.

Clearly broken.

Harpies war gear - One twin-linked Stranglethorn Cannon The thing in that picture is about 50% bigger then a Flyrant and also refer to my post about the Tyrannofex codex art to model change.

Honestly keeping the exact same profile for the Harpy, but making it so you can purchase an Impaler Cannon for the same price as the Heavy Venom Cannon wouldn't be a bad move.

It's defenitly a hive tyrant. It looks like it doesn't have the horn but that could be because the horn just blends into the rest of the carapace. There's a bump in the middle of the back if you picture it it would be the top of the horn

Oh it's much clearer in the DA codex and it doesn't have a horn. I mean it looks like it's a hive tyrant but it's just way too big and it's armed with the same gun a Harpy has by default.

Big difference is it has the 'scything feet' from the new Flyrant, while the art in the Tyranid codex art shows no such limbs on the Harpy. I fact, the codex art is very clear unlike the Tervigon and Tyrannofex artwork. There's a few big differences - the Codex Harpy has two guns (yes, twin linked means two), no legs, serpentine body, no carapace chimneys, and elongated head carapace.

It's a Flyrant, which has the bulkier body, shorter, fatter head, single cannon limb and legs..

Not even close. Not to mention they're almost the size of a Thunderhawk. The Flyrant in that picture is about twice the size of a Speeder.

They're actually only a bit bigger then a Valkyrie. My friend has a valk and I have put it next to my Harridan. Thunderhawks are a fair bit bigger but yes i agree that thing looks nothing like a harridan and is far too small.

If it were a Harpy, there would be two Stranglethorn cannons two heavy venom cannons. The weapon options on it are always twin linked.

Looks like Flyrant. Nice art btw

Having stared at it for a while longer, I think I'm coming around to the Winged Tyrant camp sadly. The "legs" definitely seem to be a direct match with the leg style GW adopted for their Winged Tyrant.

A shame... but that doesn't mean we can't have a new Harpy too whenever this flyer wave makes its appearance.
