I have yet to learn the new 40k rules, and I have not yet seen the Dark Angels codex.

I'm interested to hear what I should be considering as additions to the Dark Vengeance army.

The first purchase will probably not be large, and will be ordered with the codex.

I like the look of the following units, and I am currently pondering them: More Terminators, Sniper Scouts, Land Speeder.

I have the two HQ units from the starter box already, so I don't feel like buying one of the characters to unlock Deathwing or Ravenwing as troops, at the moment. This is the reason I am considering Scouts.

All input is welcome.

Land Speeder Vengeance - easily the most cost (points and money-wise) effective model ever ever!!!

Sorry, i coudln't help myself.

The flyer looks pretty nice but those Deathwing Knights are just beastly.

Iron Warriors (8000 points-ish)

Deathwing knights are beastly, however the flier is expensive both points wise and money wise. It's alright for killing infantry though.

I think you should go with more terminators, the command box gives you lots of options to go with and it will allow you to turn around and get the old black reach termis cheap and put unused stuff to make them look like dark angels.

If I were to buy the codex and a box of Terminators (if for no other reason than the Knights look cool, and I can use the extra bits later on), I assume I'll still need one more squad of troops to make the army legal.

Not if you get Belial, then the 2 termi squads and the tac squad are troops

Looking through the model range, I'm likely to have more Terminators than anything else, so that might be a wise investment.

I'm just going to keep things simple for you:

Get another tactical squad, and at least two devestator squads. Then as you want to spend more: move more into deathwing and ravenwings.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

If you want to do DA on the cheap, you can probably flesh out a Deathwing army using mostly the Dark Vengeance Terminators off of FeeBay. I'm doing this with my DW and the whole 1,500 pt army is project to cost <$200. Considering my IG was well over $1,000, that's a bargain.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

First thing, first. Get the codex. Read it. You might change your mind in what you want.

Remember if you get Terminators, you will not have many minis. It can be a good thing $$$ wise but you might find it a bit boring if your Opponent has more minis and you get bad rolls and loose your minis. Yes Terminators have a 2+ save, but enough shots, you can loose them easily enough in some situations.

So read the codex. Read the stories and then see what you like.

To start off, getting the Terminators sounds good, but I am starting to like Ravenwing now. Before it was Deathwing, but after reading the fluff, Ravenwing is appealing to me now and they are SOOO much cheaper than Deathwing.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Cheaper how? Bike models cost the same (if those fancy special dudes) or less than Terminators in points, but are notably more expensive per model in money, thus being more expensive. Never mind the cheaper point bikes, or Land Speeders.

Sorry about that. I was looking at Point per single mini. Forgot to consider when added all up what it would be. Still, never thought of running Ravenwing before, so looking forward to it now.

I just picked up another DV Tac Squad off eBay on the cheap. I guess next will probably be more bikes or maybe a transport. Not really keen on going full Deathwing or full Ravenwing.

Azrael. Then you'll have three scoring units that can beat face.

Tactical Marines are a must to expand your scoring power. Azrael is a good choice as mentioned above.
