Hi guys,

Recently (well christmas but January has been awful) I got my first Malifaux models and have made my first attempt at creating a gang, please not that I have literally gone for looks alone with these models and not at all certain how well I will do in games, firstly I want to take my time and get these painted up nice.

Anyways here is the list that I have so far for the beginnings of introduction games which will take palce at the beggining of March:

25 Soulstone Starter List

Collodi - Cache 5
Marionette - 2SS
Marionette - 2SS
Marionette - 2SS
Marionette - 2SS
Wicked Doll - 3SS
Wicked Doll - 3SS
Wicked Doll - 3SS
Stitched Together - 5SS
Stitched Together - 5SS

Now a couple of things that i'd like to check out, since I am taking Collodi as a master not a henceman I get an additional 7 Soulstones to spend on recruiting? (Henchman 7) so for a 25SS scrap I get 32 Soulstones?

Also everything with the exception of the Stitched Together I can make fast with Collodi's abilities so I have 2 models that I can Fog up to protect while everything else races around hugging terrain, I am thinking that for the expansion to 35SS crews I will simply add a Widow Weaver and purchase some more Wicked Dolls and Teddy for summoning, will these be a good addition to the crew?

Also are there any other models I should look at?

Widow Weaver is a great choice to pick up, she basically gives you a free doll every turn, and if you get 3 scrap counters, you get a free teddy

Something you might want to look at and play around with is building a Collodi crew, but taking Zoraida as the master/leader. She can hire all of the models you have up there, and brings some great threats with a voodoo doll and the conduit ability.

Also look at a Brutal Effigy, it's a 4ss model that you can fill with rocks to make it a fething beast for a 4ss model, it becomes really hard to takedown and can hold it's own.

My only issue with Zoraida is that I really dislike the model but really like the rules, i may have to explore possible conversions that I can use instead but thank you for the insight and suggestions.

Was I correct in my recruiting using Collodi as a master that I get an additional 7 soulstones?

Zoraida is an hold hag, but if you can get her alt sculpt (the one with the cauldron) it's a little better.

Yes you are correct about getting 7 additional soulstones, but remember the max cache you can have with a henchman running your crew is equal to their ss costs up without going over 8 (there is a 10ss henchman) in a scrap.

So how well does Collodi interact with Lynch? I'm really liking the look of the Brilliance game mechanic

Is there a "counts as" mechanic in the game? It would be nice to be able to use, say, a Reaper model on a Malifaux base as Zoraida.

I think that as long as you have the card stats, it should be fine. It would be bad if you couldn't give way to your mad sculpting skills to make an awesome crew.

I'm not sure, as they're not really a combination that I thought of (also I'd have to borrow my player's Collodi crew to try this), I've found that Jakob doesn't like things that don't spread Brilliance and if you're spending SS on Collodi, that's a Beckoner, Illuminated, or Depleted that you're not taking. I'm sure it could be done, and I wouldn't mind seeing it. I might try it this week, do you have a list in mind that you'd like me to try?

Also to the counts as question, officially (in tournaments, etc..) you must have a faithful representation of the model that is comprised of at least 50% Wyrd materials.

In your local scene? No one is going to care, in fact... there is a guy on Wyrd's forums named Mako, who is a pretty decent sculptor imo (not me lol), that has done an entire crew based on some drawings from another member who did some concept art on the idea of: "What if the Ortegas weren't the first ones to encounter the LaCroix family?"

Totally illegal to use in an official setting, but they're fantastic models.

Sad, because these would be awesome to play against. And again, featured in a magazine, would only inspire the community, not hamper it.

Again, you can play against them, there isn't a true line of sight thing in Malifaux, so you're certainly not modeling for advantage, but in official tournaments they wouldn't be allowed, as to the magazine thing... There were 3 issues of an e-zine called Wyrd Chronicles, and I've heard mumors that it might be coming back, but idk.

It was more of a poke at WD, to be honest. I know the print industry is suffering greatly at the moment, so I wasn't attacking Wyrd per se.

Lol, I didn't think you were attacking Wyrd It's just if you look at the "top 3" companies, Wyrd is "third" (and shares that slot occasionally with Flames of War), and they don't have a magazine like GW and PP do.

Would there be a market for an independent publication, in your opinion?

Would there be a issy fit in the corporate world if said fan publication discussed more than one game company's products in the pages of said magazine?

Probably not, they tend to not make an issue out of podcasts
