Ok, this is my first real sculpting attempt. Started really when i realised that certain parts of my new daemon army would either be A. REALLY expensive or B. REALLY fun to do myself.

So without further ado... be gentle

Emperor KeeWee (Herald of Tzeentch)

So names because i thought he looked like Emperor Palpatine casting force lightening, my fiance said he look like a kiwi.... to be fair, before the robes went on, he kind of did and the name fits for a Tzeentch herald.

Spawn/Beast of Nurgle

Yeah fluffwise this thing hides in pipes, leaps out, wraps its flesh flaps around the victim and slowly absorbs them alive to feed its egg which hatches into another one of it.

Daemon Prince of Nurgle

Currently missing his other arm and my biggest project yet (Stated this one before the other two, KeeWee, being the easiest i started last....)
And the front

Currently in a qaundry as to whether he needs an extra head, its hard to see in the photo but there's an imperial guardsmen in the center, his head poking out of the flesh, screaming. wondering what others thought on the matter.

Not bad for a first attempt! you need some vasoline(or i also use spit) to smooth out that GS on the Herald and the Beastie. You can see your fingerprints in them. Using the lube and some sort of flat sculpting tool will help get those out! But not too bad!

As far as the DP goes, with your pics its hard to tell what is going on there... The GS is thick and not too much detail. Its globby and doesn't mess well with the hard, muscular wings. I would imagine a fat bloated demon would also have fat bloated wings as well. Is it a Nurgle DP? If so, and you want to keep the wings, think muscular and powerful legs but fat bloated rotting body with guts and Nurglings falling out of his ripped open stomach... Its a lot of sculpting.

You are a lot more brave than I though to attempt a complete scultp. I want to but I know it will suck.... Especially faces. When i see sculpts and the faces are horrible, that loses it for me... Anyway, hope this helps a little. Start lubing up the GS and it will improve!

Yeah the robes I need to do some work on to clean them up as for the spawn and the flesh on the deamon prince I wanted it to look like skin roughly stapled together. It;ll be painted really pale flesh and washed a dark purple where the stitching is, the muscles on the back actually look quite strong and tie in with the wings but its hard to see the rents in the skin on the back in the pictures. I'm thinking of giving more defined feet for the legs because at the moment he looks a little top heavy. I'm hoping he will be a little better defined in pictures once I've got some paint on him but I've still got to sort the other arm out before I can do much else.

Thanks for the comments though I'll give using some lubricant and some tools to try and smooth out the herald.

A good start for a first attempt and also a good starting point. But i have to say they look a little bit bland - especially KeeWee and the Nurge Prince. What i would suggest is a technique i always use in my conversions/scratchbuilds. It is called: "Hiding bad details with more bad details."

For example you could stick some amulets on KeeWee. Just roll some thin Green Stuff together to create a rope, hang it around his neck and stick a fitting bit as amulet on it. And you could stick to top of a staff or other weapon under the robe of his left hand.

As for your demon prince. His left leg and his arm needs more contoures. And you could also stick more nurgly stuff on him like festering boils visible musculature under ripped skin and entrails hanging out of him. Just look here or on already existing GW models or artwork for inspiration. Also don't dismiss the idea to go to a bitz-shop and buy some fitting bits to stick to your models. Nobody forces you to sculpt all yourself. And even with bought bitz you will still be cheaper that buying the whole kit from GW.

And keep in mind: Your details doesn't need to be perfect. Your skill will increase in time and if you really don't like some areas just grab your knife and carve it out to replace it with something better later on. Also a decent paintjob can make a "bad" model look good if done right.

As for tools and materials. If you want to make more scratchbuilds you should think about investing some money in good tools and utilities like tentacle maker or clay shapers (extra firm is the way to go for the latter).
