Yup, I'm back, after a fashion at least. Started working on the lovely minis from Mansions of Madness and the Forbidden Alchemy expansion:

Some mould lines to remove on the critters, and a wee bit of gs required on the bigger ones.

Frustratingly, quite a few mould lines on the investigator. Easily cleaned, but still, may be noticeable. Much better hidden in the monsters.

Next, to prime them. I'd like to do something to the bases, wood might work, but the different rooms kind of demand different surfaces. Or should they just be left blank?

Anyway, more to follow!

Yeah, or a rich red, that's always good for cultists, I guess. I use Gothic Horror for creative writing in S2 (12/13) - any excuse!

Tony Todd FTW!

Okay, so a little proof of concept test. I like the idea of wooden floorboards, but gs isn't going to work as I'd need to detach the investigators and they're very fragile.
So then I had the idea to exploit the softness of the plastic generally, and had this idea:

All I've done is scored the base; simple, quick and I think effective. From there, I can detail accordingly (I don't think nail holes/marks are necessary), maybe adding rubble, esoterica, the odd (very odd) tentacle... Your thoughts?
Carving along,

brilliant idea to carve the floor boards directly on the base...one has to wonder why not anyone else does it that way????... works for me...now let is see some paint and we can decide of this is truly the way to go...

Well the bases are smooth, unlike the texture of gw bases, and relatively soft. I'll need to get some primer on but want to do a couple more, one with a loose board, one for a monster. I am really tempted to carve an elder sign into one discreetly.

As for the writing, I use various mythos authors - much as I love HPL, his prose is very dense. Then again, I also show them The Simpsons version of 'The Raven'

monkeytroll wrote:Looks good...works for me

Thanks mate!

So the theory is to do all of the investigators with plain floorboards and accesorise as I go. Hence the loose board test (which may come with a tentacular extra).

I need to hunt through bits boxes for suitable accessories - I'm sure I've got some of Black Cat Bases excellent extras somewhere. Any suggestions for suitable objects to highlight either investigator or monster bases?

Well, the usual suspects would include candles, lanterns, quills, parchments, books, rune-stones, maybe the odd magnifying glass or bit of medical equipment....

Cats, rats and assorted insects could be useful. Bottles of booze or pharmaceuticals that the investigators use to keep the madness at bay? Ancient wood/stone carvings and idols.
