Hi everyone,

I have put a couple of posts on here before, but have enough models painted now that I thought I would start a blog. There are some great painters on this site, but I'm not one of them, so I'm hoping that this blog will be a place for people to suggest ways to improve my work. Last time I picked up a paintbrush I was about 13 I guess, and after a twenty year break I was bored one day and found myself idly browsing the GW website. I dug some old models out of the loft, ruined them, bought some old chaos terminators off ebay, and I was hooked again. Here's what I have so far!

The first unit I painted were my terminators; I think the models are much nicer to look at than regular marines, and thus these are not the last terminators to be found in this blog! I was heavily influenced by an awesome Lord Zhufor paintjob I found on the web, where the painter had got this amazing terracotta type finish. My models ended up a little darker, but I am quite happy with the tone. I think the darker red-brown looks more sinister than bright red for the World Eaters.

The next models I grabbed off ebay were some Havoc heavy-weapon marines, these are a mixture of plastic and metal models. I prefer the metal ones as I think the details are sharper, but overall I really didn't enjoy painting these guys so much. I like the pose of the captain though!

I had promised myself some Forgeworld models if I was still enjoying painting after Christmas, so I grabbed quite a few bits including the terminator upgrade kit to go on to some plastic chaos terminators I had got from ebay. After stripping the old models down and assembling them with the new forgeworld bits, I had some heads and torsos left over. Rather than wasting them ,I used some tyranid parts and bits of old plastic space marines (circa 1993) to make my own Obliterator cult. I'm really pleased with the way these guys came out, especially as they were essentially free!

That's all I have painted for now. I still haven't done the freehand World Eaters symbol on their shoulder pads because I'm not sure I'm up to it yet! I've just started work on the Forgeworld Terminators, which all have lightning claws, including some scratchbuilt ones as I was one pair short. I might post pictures of those up as I go to try and get some tips on technique. Also in the pile to paint are a Decimator, a Contemptor Dreadnought, and a Blood slaughterer amongst some other Forgeworld stuff.

Well done. I love the highlighting.

Great conversions, very creepy. Makes me think that Sarpedon would love fighting them.

Thanks everyone, I think those photos represent about 8 months work so updates will come pretty slowly! I'm glad the conversions are well-received, they were a lot of fun to make and I'm very pleased with them. They are (of course) meant to be Obliterators, not Devastators like I put in my first post. (I'm a painter, not a gamer, so I just paint the models that look coolest rather than worrying about army lists etc.)

Hi everyone, I have something to update this blog with. I am working on some FW terminators, which I am building with some lightly modded imperial lightning claws. I have just got the basecoat on the first two, I thought that if I put pics up at basecoat, wash, and highlight stages then I might get some feedback about my painting techniques or suggestions for things to improve. There is an awful lot of detail on the FW shoulderpads, and I struggled to paint it all neatly. It's all good fun though!

Hi all, it's only taken two years (!) so I oubt anyone is still interested, but I thought I would update this with the completed FW terminators:

I also got this guy painted up, although the base isn't finished, he slots into a sacrificial altar with the Khorne symbol carved on the floor hence the weird lines.

It seems 20 years are nothing, huh. Those converted termies look ace! I had once thought about what the result would be of attaching insectoid legs to some terminator torsos. And there you have it.

Considering the general paint scheme, my only advice would be to put special atention on contrasts. Red + yellow is something that looks nice on armors, but then I'd keep the weapons mostly metal (specially with the dark metal tone you're using). It works wonders with the havocs I think, so insist on that.

Is the daemon prince finished? I don't know if it's the picture, but I'd put some extra work in the armor, specially the bronze parts. They look a bit plain if compared with the rest of the model - it may be an issue with the picture though.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.
