I've read many topic telling of how really awesome codices (like CSM, IG, SW etc) being very successful in tournaments. Me being a Vanilla Marines player, i'm curious as to how the regular space marines fare in tournaments. This could also sate my curiousity to going to a tournament somewhere near Cincinnati.

I do very very well every tourney with my C:SM.
My only problem is cron air, GK hench spam and tzeentch daemons spam, but everyone has those issues.
That said, using null zone helps me a lot in every battle that I bring it two.
Also my thunderfire cannons bring all the tears to the field.

Null Zone is great. And twin-linked melta snapshots make fliers cry, thanks to Vulkan.

Well the good news is that for years and years, the space marine codex has been used as the "gold standard" of what a balanced codex should be. Because of this you will often find yourself either outgunned or against a more durable enemy, but usually not both at the same time. This all-around nature means they have a good chance to win just about any game.
I don't think we see them winning as many tournaments because they aren't considered one of the "power" codexes so many ultra competitive players don't play them.

Out gunned?
The SM book is a shooting codex.
Also nothing out shoots my thunderfire cannons, sternguard, and a few other things.

Tourney-worthy units:
Caestus
Pedro
Sternguard
TH/ SS
Vulkan
Ironclads in Lucius Pods
Bray-arth Ashmantle in Lucius Pod
Land Raider Achilles
Rapier Laser Destroyer
Thunderfire Cannon
Mortis Contemptor Dreads
Librarians
As you can see, a lot of this hinges on your tourney allowing FW, but fulfilling that condition, C: SM have a lot of competitive options keeping them Tourney-Worthy Automatically Appended Next Post: juraigamer wrote:Out gunned?

Except all of the IG dex, Venom/Ravager Spam, Tau, and Dark Angels
