Red looks just fine on that nurgle marine, but i really love your take on the rotting wraithbone. He looks ancient and ready to break at any moment, but something says dont get to close he is tougher than you think.

Thanks a ton guys! I'm really glad you all like the osteopored Wraithbone. It took me two attempts to get it right so I tried my hand at stripping with Dettol. Works really really nicely, and no damage whatsoever to the model it does melt liquid greenstuff though, so careful of that. Yeah I like the idea that the Chaos Gods are intrinsically linked to both the physical universe, and the psyche of the races that inhabit it. The Emperor's plan to cut humanity off from them is sort of the equivalent of a lobotomy. Yes you'll be free of their influence, but their influence is part of how the universe functions. Take that away and you're taking out a vital cog in the machine, with unforseen effects rippling out. It also paints the Emperor as potentially working against the interests of what humanity would want, which I find very interesting. He's willing to strip humanity of its honour (Khorne), compassion (Slaanesh), thirst for knowledge (Tzeentch) and kindness (Nurgle) just in order to secure humanity's freedom. That in itself is a neat little comparison with the (usually American) assertion that Freedom (capital F) is the most valuable thing in the universe, and people should be willing to sacrifice anything to ensure you are Free. Would you trade your soul for Freedom? Or, more interestingly given that it's freedom from tyranny you're fighting for, would you let a tyrant sell your soul for you to secure your freedom from other tyrants? It sort of fits the 'everything is awful' trope of the 40k universe that the best you can possibly achieve as a mortal is the freedom to choose which tyrant to die for Man. I would get burnt as a heretic so fast

@craggy go for it it's a really cool aesthetic. Looking forward to what you come up with for it
I'd say a Treelord would make an excellent Avatar (it's face and mouth in particular are very Avatar-like). It doesn't scale with the old metal Avatar, but it fits pretty well with the FW Avatar which I always thought was a better size. Plus, it's a distraction carnifex so the bigger the better
I think Kurnoth Hunters scale pretty nicely with Wraithguard. I know I've seen an excellent kitbash between the two
the busted open mouth and the claw hand (get some "blood" on it) are what appealed to me. I think I'll go with it, thanks for the encouragement.
Am thinking Revenants for Mandrakes.
Been looking at a lot of the AOS Elfen stuff, because it's mostly plastic and damn do I dislike trying to work with metal or resin. I unearthed my old Dark Eldar stuff, so have 20 warriors, an Archon and a Raider, as well as the Gangs Of Commorragh box and a set of the new Kabalites. Trying to justify the extra cost of Witch Aelves vs Wyches, and to figure out ways to have Aspect Warrior equivalents whilst keeping things plastic. Want to stick some dino-rider Exodites in the mix too, and thinking a Start Collecting Seraphon box set will be worth it for the Cold Ones and the big dino as well as maybe a box of whatever the Pteradactyls are called. Those AOS elf blokes with the 2-handed swords might make a good start for Incubi, but I'm looking for a better set of bodies, because so many boring poses on the AOS Elves. Kurnoth Hunters are another alternative option.
I've bought a big lot of Sylvaneth parts off ebay so waiting on delivery of those before buying too much but I can see this becoming expensive. Also really struggling for a good colour scheme. I like yours, but having played Blood Angels back in the day, I'm looking for something different than reds and golds. I am thinking off-white/bone colours will be a strong presence as it seems a very "death-y" colour. Maybe blue and purple accents? Although I have seen a lot of nice green painted things, and that would fit the Biel-Tan fluff. Any ideas, suggestions or critiques? @craggy No problem! More twisted creepy Eldar is always a good thing
I'm with you on the metal and resin. I've sure resin works fine for beefier models like Marines, but for skinny Eldar it just doesn't have the strength to it. It works, but it's definitely delicate.
Definitely some good ideas you've got going there. I'd grab some kits and start mashing stuff together to see what you like the look of again I'm with you on the lack of dynamic poses in the old Elven kits. Shadow Warriors have some good variety, but a lot of them fall foul of having to fit in a regiment. That's one of the good things about AoS is the ability for models to break out of that constraint which means they fit a lot nicer for 40k kitbashes (although the scale does seem a bit off for humans). I keep hearing rumblings of cthulthu-worshipping AoS elves similar in style to the Mistweaver from Silver Tower which I really hope is true for conversion potential
Definitely rich purples and gold would go really nicely with a majority bone scheme, or rich dark green and gold too. Another option if you want to go further with the deathly look is to do black and gold for contrast colours. A dark grey base drybrushed with black would look sort of ashen/smokey which would look excellent
Another update too finished two more Croneworlders. The claw daemonette cultist:
And the Croneweaver from ages ago
I've tried to make the Croneweaver's robes look grubby and tattered as the fluff for them is that they were the priests and priestesses of Morai Heg, and are kept alive and forced to serve Slaanesh as a sort of cruel joke. I've got two options for that actually, but not sure which to go for. Which of these two ideas do people think's better?
1. The Priests of Morai-Heg are kept as playthings of Slaanesh as a taunt that for all of her wisdom Morai-Heg couldn't see Slaanesh coming.
2. The Priests of Morai-Heg did see Slaanesh coming, but thought she was going to be their saviour. Eldar God born during their longest period of peace and prosperity, prophesised to kill Khaine who had sparked a war by trying to genocide the Eldar? What's not to like? So, they actively worked to blind their God by feeding her false prophesies, fearful of her interference as she was Khaine's consort. As Slaanesh was born and the true horror of her nature was discovered, the Croneseers tried in vain to undo their work, for which Slaanesh has condemned them to live eternally in her service.
Perhaps both why not?
Either way, they've been cursed with hunched and wisened frames, and drab, dirty vestments. An insult for such a proud and vain race as the Eldar.
And here's the pleasure cult as it stands now 6 models strong. Slaanesh's sacred number

Yeah man that Croneweaver turned out great. So did the pinks on the clawed Slave to Darkness.
I'd go with Fluff 1 for the most part with Fluff 2 applying to a handful of members of a sub-cult. Most cultists of Morai-Heg who truly saw the future would've gotten out of dodge, either to an anarcho-primitivist colony or on one of the joykillers' worldships.

The Croneweaver is fantastic! I like fluff 2, it's very tragic.
For my own models I'm waiting to see what bits come in my sylvaneth parts lot, but have hellions, Reavers and kabalites ready and waiting. Definitely going to make use of those blank face helmets too, got some ideas for the painting of them, but need to up my skills a bit before going there. My 20 original Dark Eldar warriors were all built, so I'm using a couple of those to try out ideas. Thinking purple and maybe more of a copper or bronze accent instead of gold. Think I'm happy with mostly bone colour armour to start with. The one I've test painted looks nice.

Thanks guys! Really glad to hear I've done the artwork justice, and glad you like the Croneweaver
I definitely like your idea for a sub-cult of Morai-Heg being the basis of the Croneweavers using idea number 2. It definitely seems like a conspiracy type thing, and echoes the secretive Warrior Lodge thing in the Heresy with secretive sects running through larger cultures.
Plus, I've got a bit of an idea for an exodite Morai-Heg priestess that I want to try and do at some point
@craggy purple and bronze would be an excellent colour combo, and Reaver blank-face helmets are some of the coolest heads ever created in my opinion looking forward to seeing some of your guys come together Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, one other thing I decided that much though I really liked how the red looks on the tentacles of my Death Guard, I couldn't get past how much they distracted from the rest of the model so I stripped them back and repainted them. Much prefer them now, even if they're slightly less impressive
I've got the recipe for the red tentacles in the bank for later though Wild Rider Red with heavy washes of Reikland Fleshshade and Druchii Violet followed by a gloss coat

That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with these strange aeons even death may die. - Khalfhirin, Prophet of Ynnead One of the effects Revenant Psykers of the Ynnari have is to rouse the spirits of the dead to a state of near-consciousness in their presence, as opposed to the sort of half-life they normally inhabit inside the Infinity Circuit. Here's a question though. What happens when you bring a soul back to near consciousness that's been interred into the shell of a Wraithguard? The first revelation would be that you discover that you are dead. Prior to this, you absent-mindedly wander through the swirling echoes of soulstuff, unable to differentiate the living from the dead. The second revelation would be that you discover you've been interred into what amounts to a mute sensory deprivation tank and used as a tool in the the most bloody and vicious conflicts your living kin have fought. Consciousness inside a walking tomb is not a blessing, it's a curse. However, such consciousness once gained is not lightly given up. Many Wraithguard abandon their stations upon Craftworlds to follow Ynnari prophets, desperate to avoid slipping back into the fog of their half-life. Such companions are highly prized by the prophets of the Dead God, having a marked impact on those they wish to convert. Many are festooned with charms and scrawled messages, believed to be carried to deceased loved ones by the wakeful Wraith. And the Ynnari Cult as it stands at the moment Next up, some fanatics!

Thanks man yeah I've always thought that Wraithguard (and Wraithlords) should look slow and deliberate, almost languid.
A lot of people convert them into super-dynamic poses and I just don't think it looks right. Half of the legs in the Wraithguard kit are too dynamic for my liking even!
It's also my first attempt at weathering wraithbone and I must admit I love the way it looks it's probably a little subtle to show up in my potato-photos, but I've drybrushed Mournfang Brown on any sharp edges and around his feet and the bottom of his tabard. Now I'm going to have to go back and do all my wraithbone like that as I like it so much!

Sometimes, I find a good way to look for inspiration is to work out what precisely what something isn't, in addition to what it is. Ynnead is the Eldar God of Death and Rebirth. Ynnead is not God of Healing. That's Isha's domain, who still lingers on in Nurgle's company. Ynnead has power of life and death over the bodies of the Eldar, independent of their condition. We see this in the Altansari, saved from death by the power of Ynnead, but appearing as perfectly preserved corpses. Perhaps in time she will gain power over this, but for now she is weak. A small fish in a pond full of sharks. For now, simple animation will have to suffice. Hence the term 'Revenant Psyker'. What precisely do you think these Eldar should look like? Slain by the blinding psychic light of a fell Sorceror, Ynnead has the power to restore life to your limbs. However, Ynnead does not have the power to restore sight to your eyes. For Laeril, wraithsight would have to suffice. The alternative, she supposed, would be unimaginably worse.

The rifle is a loose Dark Eldar Splinter Rifle, I think from the Raider kit.
One of the big changes between the older Guardian kit and the newer Dark Eldar stuff seems to be a bit of confidence in plastic casting to be able to make really thin and delicate details. Suits Eldar stuff down to a tee looks really nice

Little update too
A voice echoed out through the derelict palace, deep and thunderous in its rage. "Abomination, you call me. Perversion of nature. Soul Drinker. Tell me, voidfarer, how does what I do differ from your beloved Phoenix Lords? Their art is not so different to my own. The absorpsion of souls is in our very nature. We are but vessels constructed to contain its energy. Learn to control its flow, and you too can take from those who do not deserve life. You and I are different only in our habits, not in our nature. Despise me if you will, but remember, Selesti stands due to my will alone."
Not sure if it's actually noticeable in the slightest but I've had a crack at a bit of weathering on him dirt on the hems of cloth, a little of the same on his wraithbone limbs, some stippling on his blade and a little extra highlight on his feathered ruff. Probably more noticeable from behind:
Oh, and realised I'd forgotten to give his eyes whites!
