Is it just primed grey? Please be primed grey and then painted grey.
Also, why grey skin on Orks? It's pretty interesting, but I don't understand it since I can't see Slaanesh Orks.

He indeed is primed grey. And i use my orks only to test some skin painting schemes before i ruin my csm. As a result i have some very strange colored orks. Those are just the ones from the aobr box that i never used.
Oh thank goodness. I hate it when people paint directly onto plastic.

How.. how does this work? They're the same thing, except that the zerg have a ladyboss.
I really like that Noise champion, and those marines are lookin' pretty nasty.

The idea of both race are very similar. A massive swarm race with a hivemind that runs around and comsumes life to feed and create new creatures and warriors for their ranks. The difference comes with the creatures themself.
My goal would be (if i'd do it) to recreate the look and feel of zerg units and play them as a counts as tyranid force. This would require to convert and/or scratchbuild parts or entire units to look similar to the zerg ones. And on top of that i'd need to invent more zerg creatures to fill all possible unit choises and wargear options.
So the difference is purely aestetic wise. And due to the swarm type of army i'd need to build a ton of stuff and would probably need to cast my conversion bitz like new heads/arms/carapace pieces or even entire scratchbuild models. As i don't have the money to do this this project isn't possible at the current time.
Would stripping and sending over my old 'nids help?
Those CSM are looking great, makes me want to drop my Norse Orks (or are they Crimmzun Fistz freebootas?) and make a Chaos force.. but then again, I want to make an IG Rogue Trader force... ARGH! Too many ideas, so little cash. Maybe drawing them as comics will help.

Human skin. Pleasure comes in all forms, so why not take joy in ripping off the flesh of your former species and wear it as a loincloth? You could make it look fresh, and have blood running down the legs.

Those poor orks.. I think all you're missing with your grey skin tone is a nice wash to blend the colours together a bit. Or you could try bone colours. They look amazing anyway, keep it up!

The glaze will brighten your colours, so if you want a dark blue tint then you should use Drakenhof Nightshade.

Those poor Orks look good! I like 4-2 and 5-1, but they look a little too similar to 1-2. I'd make the cultists 1-1, 1-2, or 5-2, and marines and such 4-2 and 3-2.

I like the purple skin better, I'd use the grey on cultists or something. It makes them look sickly instead of possessed/mutated. I love your sculpting skill! What do you use for armature, just paperclips? And what do you use for muscle reference?

I mean the ones on the left (Spiky haired one basically). With brighter highlights they would seriously pop.
Where do you get those wires? I really want to work on my GS skills so I can make a Rogue Trader style IG army or something. A good mix of xenos and gender equality (kind of, Orks don't have any real gender but refer to each other as male, and we don't know much about the Kroot now do we?).

Sweet! This'll help with my drawings (I don't like drawing catachans, but I've gotta!) and working on sculpting. EDIT: Did I ever ask what tools you use? I like to ask so I can find a good range to choose from (dental tools, actual sculpting tools, house supply, etc.). I also feel like I'm asking too many questions. o.o' Am I?

I'd love to see your drawings. Michelangelo had a bunch of "unfinished" works that were finished to him. I should put some of mine up, but I can't decide if I should scan them or take pictures.
I'll see if I can find those tools on eBay. I have the mediocre GW sculpting tool and some old dental picks (the hook thingies), and everyone says those clay shapers are great so I'll look into those. They probably sell those at a crafts store.
Can't wait for more stuff. Love the conversions, sculpts, and scratchbuilds. Can't wait to see if there are some draws up here as well!

Flood with pictures! But you could just wait 'till you have a nice store of pictures and then upload those. Everyone likes pictures, but sometimes you just can't take 'em, so sometimes you could have some picture-less updates and just a paragraph or two on concepts and stuff. EDIT: Is the daemon princess with leg-guards going to be swinging something? Her arms look a bit wonky if you think about them any other way IMO.

I would imagine it would be pale purple, or sickly-looking. But it would also be muddy and dirty, maybe with dead trees and roots growing about it. Probably moss. Since it's a giant temple it must be very slow or very fast. I can imagine it walking about on massive crab legs, with the bow of a ship. I'd look at imperial land temples and replace their tracks with legs. EDIT: Maybe near the center it'd have some sort of control deck with a daemon or something wired up into the entire complex? Like a Tyranid Norn Queen, or the controller in the last episode of the 9th Doctor from Doctor Who. Or the Strogg from Quake, or the Combine from Half-Life. Or just a massive daemon engine.

IF you just do terrain pieces, then I still think it'd be foppin' amazing to have some sort of wired up daemon or something.

For your "counts-as-nurgle" guys, I'm thinking something along the lines of Little Sisters from Bioshock, just "all grown up." They'd have massive syringes (or syringe guns) with canisters on their backs full of liquid. They'd probably also be wearing gas masks. Or you could make massive pubic lice being ridden by someone. Or just massive pubic lice. They're sexual, aren't they? As for the defiler, it sucks you can't get one (It's just a really cool kit) but you could've turned it into a mini-base on legs, with captive slaves of all sexes, races, and species. Since it's normally got a big box at the front, you could make it like a grasshopper and have the big claw legs at the back and the "upper torso" would become a bunker-y thing. I still don't have the hang of photoshop (traditional drawing is too fun), but I'll try my best to make some sort of mock-up. You could probably buy one much cheaper off eBay as well. An old, badly painted one you could strip would probably be best.

btldoomhammer wrote: And i am not a fan of this slave plattform. Yes i have slaves as objectives and part of the backstory. But for me slaves don't have a place on the battlefield. If my army goes to war it does it completely and leaves everthing behind that would be distracting from the ecstasy of battle. The slaves in my army are more of a workforce and a nice amusement to fill the gaps before the joy of the next battle. And i don't like the "slaves are only to sate lust" approach. Yes this is a slaanesh army and there will be bad stuff happening to slaves. But on the opposite loyal slaves have a future and can not only climb up in ranks but also undergo the tranformation into astartes facsimiles and be trusted soldiers themselves if they survive it.
I WAS thinking of workforce slaves, but they'd be of different sexes, races, and species. It's boring to keep everything 'umie. If I was talking about sex slaves, then this would be a Dark Eldar thread, wouldn't it? Since the Defiler is more machine than daemon, a platform of sex wouldn't fit it at all anyway. Also, where did you get the "only to sate lust" idea from my post? I only said they'd be slaves on a platform; you'd have total artistic freedom from that basis. You could make it a tiny factory (for something) or a slave barge, or getting ready to disembark for battle with slave-drivers behind them. Not every slave is just a worker, some would HAVE to go onto the field, maintaining engines and vehicles, or being used as cannon fodder since there's more than enough to go around.

I guess I was trying to convey the image of a landing craft-type thing on a defiler body, just more insectoid. I guess I'll have to make it, then! Basically I saw the image of slaves being whipped out of a barge on legs into the midst of fighting while the actual vehicle storms through buildings. Since, y'know, it's still a Daemon engine.

That's just silly. I was probably trying to revive that "spider rhino" idea you had earlier in the thread. I'm still trying to create a proper drawing (i've never drawn a defiler before!) but it might take a while with everyday inconveniences.

I found this last night while trying to get reference pictures, it's sort of a Mantis - defiler?
And then I found this, which is kind of what I was trying to convey, just a little more like a landing craft on the top and full of live slaves and not corpses (but that could be cool as well)
Then I made a sloppy sketch of my idea before going to sleep. It's not to scale or proper in any way (there aren't many pictures of defiler backs). It's not a schematic, more of a reference point.

The more paint I see on that dread, the more I love it! I'm going to be placing some orders next month, and now I'm stuck on what to do! I can either invest in sculpting, continue with my Orks, build an IG-based Rogue Trader Army, or... I don't know! Your skill makes me envious!

I like the two-handed weapon idea, but what if she had two, and swung them in opposite directions? Or she's getting read to throw a massive spear, and her smaller hands are holding extra ones? Alternatively she could be holding a bow, and the smaller hands holding arrows.

The lower arms would have to be longer, but that would be really interesting! You don't see multi-limbed joints much these days.
