Hello all,

As the title will sugest I'm currently converting a Dark Angel Nephilim Jetfighter into a Chaos Helldrake.
Nothing against the latter model but it just aint my cup of tea and when that Nephilim came out it just begged to be 'turned'.

Chaos icons were quickly slapped on, the pilot modified with Chaos parts.
But I'm at a loss as to (re)build the wings.
I had a few ideas like making new wings out of plasticard in the shape of 1/4 Chaos Star or modelling spikes on the original wings but it just doesn't seem to work for me.

I got 2 main problems:
1/ I'm not going to buy a Helldrake kit just for the wings.
2/ I'm utter rubbish with Green Stuff and Plasticard....

Here are some pic to give you an idea of what I'm doing atm





Mind you, the plasticard version is just a try out with far to thick material, 2 mm if I'm not mistaken.

I think you can do a lot by painting, too. Maybe ask to move this thread to the painting and modelling section, there are some people that are really good at this and that may be able to help.

My idea is to go on eBay and get the wings because I get all my models off of eBay for about 10$ less than they'd be on GW.com or the LGS. I am working on a WE CSM army, so I was looking at heldrakes on eBay, and I found wings for about 5$ for each...

Can't you cut the chaos arrow shapes out of thin plasicard and then glue them onto the wings? Use a ruler and some round object to assist drawing and cutting neat lines.

Thanks for the replies all, I was doing my dishes earlier and I was thinking on doing the Chaos star wings as seen in pic 2 but attach them to the body of the plane with Green Stuff, like they have grown that way.

Another few WIP pics.

I just can't let the idea about rebuilding the wings go so I'm simply going for it. No guts, no glory!!!

These were made out of carton before I do them in plasticard, I've been to the shop today to pick some up along with a good modelling knife.





Mind you, the design might change a little but it should give you a rough idea of what it'll look like (hopefully) when it's finished.

That's pretty wicked. Any plans to change the tailwings as well?

You do kinda need something for it to Vector Strike with.

Way ahead of you

The Ball and chains from the Defiler kit wich are dangling beneat the engines are serving the 'vectorstrike purpose'

And here's the work so far, this is the final design on the wings.
I made them bigger and added an extra support, they still need to be filled on the sides with Green Stuff and they lack texture but that'll be done tomorrow or so.
Also I've put the 'supports' IN the wings to give it more depth and make the wings a bit thicker.







They aren't attached yet so they'll point downwards a bit more when it's finished.

These wings are a lot better than the previous ones, better proportions and design overall ^^

I made mine out of a stormtalon, because it was cheaper. I like your defiler cables. I have mine with a bunch of flamers and some claws for it to latch onto guys as it vector strikes

That's pretty brutal-looking, wich is meant in a good way

How do people react when you put it on the table? It's obviously smaller than the Heldrake model, so do they complain?

I mean, if I saw that, I'd just be in awe at how awesome it was! Loving these conversions, I hope I see some in my area in the future! They look way cooler than the playmobile dragon.

Mine hasen't seen any action yet, and knowing my luck it'll get shot out of the sky on it's first turn

The reactions I had on our gaming forum so far have been positive, you'll be hard pressed to find fussy people at TSoA

I feel like something in the nose of the aircraft should look like a dragon. Also, on the tail end you could stretch it out and make it more serpentine, like the jet is slowly transforming onto a standard Heldrake.
