Hi all,

This past weekend I took the Knights of the Flaming Cheddar to Clark, New Jersey for the Colonial GT. It is a five game, two day event that bills itself as laid-back event. The non-gaming portion is laid back but the there are many gamers who came to play to win and brought hard lists. I can't say to much. Paladins have all sorts of irritating parts to them. Namely re-rolling just about everything.

Here is the list:

and the fluff:

I gave each opponent a hand-out which included a cover sheet, fluff, army builder army list, and mission:

Each game consisted of a primary, secondary, tertiary objective and up to three bonus points were available.

Game 1:

vs. Jared and his Space Wolves
His List:
Thunderwolf Lord
Rune Priest (x2)
Grey Hunters (x10) in drop pod
Grey hunter (x5) n drop pod (x2)
Grey Hunter (x5)
Thunderwolf (x3)
Wolf Guard (x3)
Long Fang (x6) w/ 5 missile launcher (x3 units)
Defense line w/ quad gun

Mission: War is Chaos
Pri - Objectives
Sec - slay the warlord/linebreaker/first blood
Ter - Victory Points
Bonus - Marked for death. Choose three enemy units and gain a bonus point for each one killed.
Dawn of War deployment

We roll four objectives. I put mine in the middle of the board and he puts one towards my deployment zone about twenty inches in from each side. I deploy first. Asiago, Lib and nine man squad go right of center. Ten man squad goes left of center. Assassin infiltrates. He sets up his long fangs and rune priest behind defense line, Thunderwolves to his left of line and everything else in reserve. He drops two chooser of the slain near the two objectives he placed which forces my assassin into a corner. He did tell me was going to do it before and said I could do something different with my assassin. No problems, I set him up outside the bubble and just moved him into position first turn.
First turn I move straight ahead and shoot. I caused a few models to be removed. He doesn't do much. Drops a pod behind Asiago shoots a bit and I deny his JotWW .

Turn two I move forward towards the objectives, shoot some more, kill a few more , but did not kill a single thunderwolf. He stops a few powers with his psychic hood, grrr. His turns sees another drop pod behind Asiago come in and he moves thunderwolves at Asiago. I deny another JotWW and he charges Asiago with Thunderwolves. Alas, he stopped Prescience with the damn hood. We fight, Asiago vs Thunderwolf Lord, each causing a wound. I loose a few Paladins to Thunderhammers and I kill a Thunderwolf. We stay to fight again

Turn three sees ten-man Paladins turn around to deal with Grey Hunters behind Asiago. The ten man Grey Hunter squad evaporates and we trade kills in Hand-to-hand. He moves a bit, drops another pod by my near, left objective, JotWWs and three paladins go away, Wolf Lord finally dies to Asiago, and he is down to one Thunderwolf. My apothecary keeps absorbing thunderhammer blows with his warding stave, much to opponents frustration.

Turn four. I kill the last thunderwolf, kill all but one from last drop pod (near objective)and the guy runs. His turn sees more shooting and I lose a Paladin from Asiago's mob.

Turn five, I move Asiago's squad to an objective and shoot at Grey hunters camping at an objective, but don't cause enough wounds for a leadership test. I cause A LOT of wounds on his lone Grey Hunter. He goes to ground in front of his defense line and makes every 2+ save. ARRRGH! His turn sees the lone grey hunter get up and move to an objective. We roll a two and the game ends.

Pri - we tie with two.
Secondary - i win with First Blood and slay the warlord
Ter - he wins easily.
Bonus - I get all three. I chose the lord, thunderwolves, and ten man drop pod squad. He gets two for Librarian and assassin (he killed with storm bolter from drop pod on turn two).
So it was my 13 points to his 10.

It was a fun, bloody game that came down to the end. we both haven't played much sixth edition and had to look up a few rules, but they were resolved.
I knew thunderwolves could hit hard, but no that hard.
I thought I played a decent game, not to many errors (like forgetting to cast Prescience). In the little play testing I tried I found splitting the ten man squad into combat squads didn't work all that well and objective missions are always going to be tricky. The dice gods did not favor Jared early, but made up for it later in the game. Overall, a good way to start the event. On to lunch and game two ....

Hi, all!

On to lunch. Whoops. Hold it. The gentleman preparing lunch just waltzed in and is just starting. Looks like lunch will wait.

Okay, so on to game 2.

Joe and his Chaos Space Marines with Demon allies.

Joe's list:
Demon Prince of Tzeentch w/ wings, armor, black mace, Gift of Mutation
Cultists (x10) -3 units
Heldrake (x2)
Chaos Spawn w/ Mark of Nurgle (x5)
Obliterator with Mark of Nurgle (x2) - 3 units

Blue Scribes
Plaguebearer (x5) - 2 units
Flamer (x5)
Screamers (x8)

Deployment: Hammer and Anvil

Mission: Raiding Comoragh - Game starts as night fight. Starting on game turn 3 and every game turn after roll a dice. If the roll is 4+ night fight ends.

Pri - The relic. Place one objective in middle than place one objective in opponents deployment zone. Middle objective worth three points, the others are worth one each
Sec - Kill points
Ter - Slay the warlord / linebreaker / First Blood
Bonus - +1 ppoint for any unit you kill during night fight. Max 3 points.

Disclaimer - I can't seem to recall exact details, but it should give the right feel or tone of the battle.

Luckily we were at table 12 which was at the end. it was also appropriate to be playing night fight because the light was very dim at that end of the room.

I placed my objective in the middle of Joe's deployment zone. He placed his objective six inches in from my left side and six inches in from his long edge. Okay, well, I guess this is a tournament.

I did manage to roll the Ignores cover psychic power. Woohoo!

I deploy in my typical fashion. Asiago and crew just right of center as far up as possible and ten man squad just to left of center and as far up as possible.
Joe sets up two units of cultists to make a run at the objective in my deployment zone the other cultists deploy behind the objective I placed. Obliterators line up in a nice row about 36 in front of Asiago. Spawn set up about 30 inches away in front of ten man squad into some cover and demon prince behind them. Everything else was in reserve. I set up the assassin in some trees about ten inches from my long table edge and left of center of the board.

First Turn-
I go first and move up both squads. Asiago and crew kill three Spawn, ten man kills a unit of cultists, assassin doesn't wound oblit with turbo-penetrator.
Joe drops in both plaguebearers, screamers and flamers (but they mishapped). Moves up Spawn and DP. He kills three or four with Oblits, turbo-charges his screamers in a v- shape to kill assassin and finish move in front of Asiago.

Turn Two-
Ten man stay in place Asiago moves up to just outside an inch from screamers. Another unit of cultists die and so do five screamers. I charge into screamers and plaguebearers. Screamers and plaguebearers go bye-bye. At this point Joe is obviously not very happy.
Joe moves up his demon prince and spawn to assault ten man squad. Drops second unit of plaguebearers not far from center objective. Heldrakes come roaring in towards Asiago. I lose a coupl epaladins to Oblits and he charges the ten man squad with DP and spawn. I put a couple of wounds on spawn with overwatch. DP kills four or so, paladins kill spawn and wound DP.

Turn three -
Here is where the order of things get a bit fuzzy for me.
I move Asaigo and crew to assist ten man squad, they dont make it. DP and Spawn are killed by ten man squad.
Joe drops his scribes and flamers and kills several Paladins. Obliterators finish off Asiago and crew. Joe's mood begins to lighten.

Turn four -
I'm moving to try and kill his plaguebearers, but don't have range so I shoot at flamers and kill a couple.
Joe moves his flamers and scribes and kills some more paladins.

Turn five -
I shoot up plaguebearers and kill all but one.
Joe kills all but one Paladin and rolls a two for random game length.

Well, that was fast bloody affair.

Joe wins Primary with last plaguebearer and unit of cultists in back. I think we tied for tertiary. i had first blood and slay the warlord and Joe had slay the warlord and linebreaker.

I'm not sure what I could have done differently. The obliterators were to much to handle. Anything with AP2 and toughness 8 or greater is going to eat my army for lunch. Speaking of lunch. It was finally ready. We had chicken, beans, and hands-down the best potato salad I've ever had.

Next up, game three.

Thanks and take care

Hi, all

Back with game 3. This one was against Cody and his Green Tide. He fielded 184 Orks with some grots thrown in.

Cody's List
Big Mek w/ KFF (2 units)
Slugga boyz (x29) + Nob w/ Power Klaw (4 units)
Shoota boyz (x29) + Nob w/ Power Klaw (2 units)
Dakka Jet w/ additional Supa Shoota, fightin Ace (2 units)
Grot Kannon (x3) (3 units)
Aegis defense line w/ quad cannon

Each unit of boyz was painted as a different clan. It made for an interesting looking army and made it easy to separate one squad form another

Mission: Big guns never tire
Deployment: Vanguard Strike

Pri: Objectives (5), I just noticed we should have played them as mysterious. D'oh!
Sec: Slay the warlord - First BLood - Linebreaker
Ter: Kill points

I placed objectives in a line slightly on my side of the center of the table. He set his behind his defense line.

I deployed in my usual manner (as far up as possible and in the center). Cody deployed his kannons behind the defensive line and masses of boyz to each side. Meks were placed to give as many cover saves as possible.

Turn One
Cody went first and moved all his boyz right at me and took some kannon shots.
I took three big steps back and opened fire on the unit of boyz closet to me. A whole bunch of wounds later and the unit of boyz was gone.

Turn Two
After seeing how much carnage the Paladins can cause from shooting Cody decided to turn his green skins into yella' skins. A reverse signal sounded and he backed-up all his boyz. One jet moves on and causes a few wounds. He shot with the cannons to no effect.
I move forward and shoot the dakkajet only causing one shoota to be removed.

Turn Three
Boyz back-up again. Dakkajet flies off board. Kannons may have killed one.
I move towards objectives and shoot some kannon.

Turn Four
Both Jets fly on WAAAGH! and cause some wounds. He starts moving boyz towards the objective closest to me, and farthest from any models on the table.
I have a decision to make. Do i start moving towards the nearest objective to me or stay where I'm am and try and shoot any boyz that get to close. I decide to stay, if the game ends on turn five I'll be left without any objectives. I shoot at the boyz moving towards the object and cause several wounds. One jet goes down to bolter fire and crashes into a unit of Pallys, luckily no one was harmed

Turn Five
He gets two unitsw of boyz near the objective and shoots some kannon and dakkajet. I lose one Pallly.
At this point Im losing the game so I decide to make a run at the near objective and hope the game goes to turn 7. I think I shoot the other dakkajet out of the sky and kill a bunch of boyz. The game continues.

Turn Six
Cody gets more boyz around the objective and shots some kannon - to no effect.
I keep moving towards the objective. Shoot some more boyz and than assault some boyz. I kill all of one unit, however, there is another right next to it. He placed them far enough apart that I couldn't assault both. stupid Ork tactics

The game ends. ARRRRGH! OH well. the few Pallys left would have been assaulted by 30 boyz. It would have been an interesting fight.

Cody wins Primary.
I win secondary and tertiary.
We both get a bonus point for having our warlord alive.
Cody wins 11 to 9.

It was a fun game. I should have made a run at the near objective a turn sooner. At least I have a good story about making Orks back-up.

The Evil Onion Gaming Club decided to eat dinner at Bonefish Grill. We went to one after Mechanicon last year and had a fantastic meal. If you haven't been to one (it's a chain) I highly recommend it. I've been to three different locations and had great meals each time. We ordered a few appetizers. My friend ordered the Mixed grill for two - for himself. The waiter didn't blink an eye, he said he would been impressed if had ordered the burger on top of it.

Overall it was an excellent first day. Three good games and good food.

Thanks and take care

Yep. I ran all lengths of the spectrum. Some very good, some very bad.

Thanks. The actual game portion of 40k is what I spend the least amount of time. I look at is as more of a bonus.

Here are a couple of photos ofrmy.idn't take any in game pics.
