quick question, as I don't have my BRB in front of me. I was browsing through 1d4chan's CSM tactics and the defiler section seems to imply that if you fire its battle cannon (ordnance), you can only snapshot its other weapons (if they can be snap-fired at all). is that correct? if so, I may have to seriously re-think how a defiler fits into my army :(

Yes. Welcome to the now-depressing life of the Imperial Guard.

6th edition changed the ordnance rules, if you fire an ordnance weapon you can only fire snap shots with the other weapons.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

well, that's a kick in the balls :(

my original plan was to kit my defiler out with a reaper AC and havoc launcher and then park him in a corner/table edge so he could launch pie plates and assorted other nasty things at distant targets. I can still do this, of course, but much less effectively then I was expecting. now it seems I have to choose between one pie plate per turn (that's very likely to scatter) and effective shooting for everything else. given that, what's the optimal loadout & usage of a defiler these days? does replacing the reaper AC with a TL heavy bolter make more sense if it's always going to be snap-firing? can the havoc launcher even be snap-fired? I'm not keen on kitting out walkers for close combat; any mook with a powerfist or melta bomb can blow right through your 4 hull points in the first round of combat.

help a chaos brother out?

A Havoc Launcher cannot be snap fired.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

eh, I guess this is more of a tactics question now rather than a rules question. fair enough about keeping it out of general, though. noted for the future.

Well i am not sure Chaos has accesses 2 it but if you get the Psychic power that lets you fire snap shots a BS you could get away with it. Providing of course you roll the power ...

Yes, previoulsy you could not fire ANY other weapons if you fired ordnance. Now you at least get to do something.

What made Guard cry so much is LB is now just "heavy", whereas previously ordnance turrets were not counted when firing other weapons

the Reaper AC is twin linked too, so up to you whether you'd want to replace it with the heavy bolter

I'm right there with you, OP--I remember CSM players doing that in 5th and forgot about the ordnance rule in 6th. It may be coming out of my list as well

leave the Reaper canon, its twinlinked so you have more chances to score the 6 for the snapfire.
