Hello Dakka, I am thinking of starting tau, I have heard some rumors that they are being released in april (the new book) as well as a host of new models, My question is I have also heard the crisis suits are being completely redone, would buying the current models change much?

You can be pretty safe, buying fire warriors, and battlesuit's for now. These are the staples of the army, and its very unlikely they won't be good in the new book.

Everything else, I'd wait for. They might shake thing's up and make other thing's usable, and the current good stuff bad.

Rumor has it that crisis suits are being redone..next month..so just get fire warriors or kroot.

I wouldn't put much stock in the belief that the Tau codex is coming next month, back-to-back 40k releases are HIGHLY unusual (I'm actually not even sure they've happened before). May or June is a lot more realistic.

But yeah, if you wanna get a head start, you can't go wrong getting Fire Warriors or crisis suits.

In any Tau list, you want to use at least 3 squads of Firewarriors.

Hammerheads and Devilfish are also unlikely to have any significant changes.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

Dark Angels Daemons were pretty close together.

It seems like they're really amping up the release schedule. We've had 3 codexes and 2 army books in the last 6 months.

Rumor is that they are going to be trying to bring to release 6 codex and 6 army books a year. I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is a codex coming out next month, and there seems to be a strong possibility that I'll be Tau.

The new codex is coming very soon, I would recommend picking up devilfish chassis and firewarriors, plus maybe some kroot and stealth suits.

Well wait, that means get the battleforce! Hahaha.

Don't load up on battlesuits right now, just get everything else.

Yeah, I would say fire warrios and Kroot for sure. Wait on the suits until the book release.

Why is it important to hold back on suits?

Wouldn't Firewarriors get updated as well though? and a lot of stuff.

So I guess it comes down to if you want to have the models or not I guess~

Fire Warriors probably won't be getting new models. They fit the current Tau aesthetic, the box doesn't particularly need an update (other than to add more options), and GW hasn't touched any of the core/troop models for any armies.

As for the release, we don't know exactly when they're coming out. It's possible that they're just going up for pre-order at the end of April - available early May. We can only speculate...

A quick reminder: If you want to buy a Hammerhead, just buy the Skyray instead. You get the exact same bits plus a little more.

Firewarriors are a no brainer. also Does anyone know if the skyray box still has all the parts for the hammerhead as well? If anyone can confirm, I would get one or two of those as they can easily be used as a devilfish, hammerhead and skyray with little effort (and I do mean little, you just have to sway out the top turret and the bottom gun.)

Best advice: don't buy anything now. Who knows what the codex will contain, and waiting is a small price to pay unless you have enough money that you don't care about throwing it away on things you'll never use again after the new codex comes out.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
