What's your favorite "Giant Robot Thing With Guns"? Star Wars has some great ones of course, but I think my favorite is probably ED209

Really liked the mech suit from District 9. Only part of the movie I can say I really enjoyed.

The OP said giant robots with guns!

They aren't traditional mechs, but I thought they fit the bill.

Transformers work, but only the old 80's style, the ones from the new movies are all fugly. But I was thinking more like the guy sitting in a cockpit kind of thing.

I like the Mechs that were in Avatar too, but they seemed more like a battlesuit than a mech.

I don't think there's really been that many movie mechs. While they've been around a long time in gaming, anime, etc. There haven't been a ton of them I can think of from Hollywood movies. ED-209 (robot, not guy piloting mech, though), Aliens powerloader, stuff from the Matrix, Avatar, District 9, Suckerpunch, Pacific Rim... those are the only ones that come to mind apart from Japanese movies. Maybe I'm forgetting things, but mechs as we as gamers think of don't seem to be largely representing in Hollywood.

Maybe after Pacific Rim that will change...one can hope...

The Metal Gear games always have interesting Mecha type concepts.

Favourite so far was to be MG RAY. Dinosaur noises are the way to go.

Ray breaching.

I think the reason they to be so popular as the cross the more Utilitarian Western concepts of machinery with your typical Japanese wackiness.

If we count exoskeletons as types of Mecha, then the MG series offers a plethora of other excellent designs.
