Dont get me wrong, over the years ive accepted GW's prices, but im not against finding a cheaper option when i can, even if it involves alot of work.
Currently thinking of making a clan skyre army and want 20 jezzails, but at GW's prices, that is £210!
I wouldnt mind if it was for a chunk of an army, but its only 400 points.

Ive decided to make my own, but i now need some ideas and help from the good people of dakka
Currently im looking at these:



The handguns are fairly big on empire models, so should be alot bigger on a clanrat.
Thinking i might have to use some plastic tubing to make the barrels a bit longer, then shave off the moulded empire hands, but not that big of a deal.

All in all, i only need 2 box's of empire handgunners and 2 box's of clanrats to make 20 jezzails, so £72, 1/3 of the cost with some work.

Allthough, im hoping dakka may have some different ideas i can use

Funnily enough I did the same a couple of years back. But instead to save on even buying the clanrats, I mounted two of the gunners on a base armed with their standard rifles and put a couple of giant rat packmasters at the back with their whips. Basically slaves being forced to shoot, or else they are doped up on warpstone. The problem I think will be converting those clanrats to hold the guns properly, as the left arm of the new clanrats are already molded on.

If you want something else then loads of ratling guns could count as jezzails, or better yet make your own defensive guns with rats behind them. Like a machine gun corp of rats x)

Actually you don't need to remove the hands so much, human and skaven hands are pretty much in-scale with each other.

I've seen some very nice looking jezzails made with kroot rifles, and it should be fairly simple to scult pavise's with some p-card and GS.
