I started playing 40k w/ Grey Knights and no one wanted to play vs GKs b/c they were op so it was hard to find a game. Well Since I was just starting and had to learn the game I lost all my games and it wasn't an issue for a while (No one minded playing me). I don't like using net lists so it took me a while to find a list I really liked and won consistently with it. I won 14 games or so in row and 2 local tourneys and people would avoid playing me. They made a league rule that if no one would play me I got a win that week. (Since the casual league had prizes and an entry fee.)

Well I swapped to Nids and had no problems finding games again. Well I have won 12 of my last 14 games and 1 Local Tourney. No one wants to play my Nids now.

Well now I am switching to Necrons and since we have very weak Necron players here people are already saying they will play me again. I Don't think they realize how strong Necrons are. I'll bet I don't lose hardly any games and will be in the same boat again.

Does anyone else have this problem? Everyone says I am a nice guy so I don't think that is the issue. I don't like to lose but maybe I should throw a game now and then so I don't have problems? Is there really a reason to play vs someone you know will just beat you?

I honestly find it hard to believe they wont play you because you are beating them, there has to be more then that. Are you a power gamers while they play casual? Do you know the rules a lot better, or does it simply come down to skill?

No army can instant win another army so i doubt they arn't playing you because of your list specifically, as they could always adapt to it. Is there aother factor, *no offense intended* is it possible they arn't playing you because you are...you?

Dude all have to say is you must play with a bunch of jerks or you must not be a fun guy to play.

Without knowing you or the people you game with I can't say.

One thing is for sure take if you win 14 in row and you are worrying that nobody will play you then start taking units that you normally don't take and try and make them work to challenge yourself.

You may go 5 and 5 but you will have tighter games and they will be more interesting.

Also be a fun person to play make an effort to be pleasant and fun to play.

If this fails then you need to get games with other people because these guys are just jerks.

When I started playing 40k, it was among four of my friends and we played on a regular basis. I didn't lose a single game against everyone for the first year and a bit. Thinking back now, my nid list was awful, I ran, warriors, carnifexes, rippers to name a few units in my list. No one liked to adapt their lists so I won all the time. I went to a tourney for the first time and I finished 19th out of 24 players, losing one game and drawing two. I then realised my list was pretty bad so I decided to improve my list more, eg zoanthropes, mycetic spores etc.

With my friends most games I played were done by turn three, or two, if they gave up. Eventually they all quit 40k and moved onto airsoft.
I found proper club and I always get a game because everyone changes their lists, either by total revamps or small tweaks, making every battle new for me. Just look at my W/L/D ratio. If your opponent doesn't change their list it's their own fault not yours. Do people say to you that they won't play you or what? Never throw a game either, if someone finds out no one will play you.

No offense with any of this. I say this all from a strict sociological standpoint.

If you're not doing anything mean with your list-writing:

-Your LGS might be full of "sensitive" players
-You might have a personality that your local players aren't a fan of.

Try playing a weak codex and focus less on your games, and more on your opponent during your games. Does their body language seem uncomfortable when you speak? Do they seem eager to finish the game? Do they roll their eyes at your actions (In game and out)?

If these issues seem true, one of the two reasons above may be the case.

If you really want to know why they have problems playing you; ask flat out. Tell them to be honest. If it's because of you as a person, you may not be with the right people. Or you may have some personality changes to make.

If it is about your lists, take gimp lists.

They do have a lot of casual players but I think another issue as the store owner put it is a force complicator. Everyone considered the GKs a melee army esp. since I didn't go Auto Cannon dreads, Psybacks, and Psycannon spam --- my list was a high range stand off and kill you list. I did use the fortress which people said was a waste of points at 1st then started calling it OP. They 1st said it wasn't worth the points and then called it pay to win. How did they not see how powerful it was when I knew right away? I used 3 tech marines w/ conv beamers w/ the purg squad(or which ever gave them astral sight), Coteaz w/ 3 PC servitors and 5 to 8 Jokearos, and a Stormraven or 2. If Coteaz rolls ignore cover it is usually over he'll kill a unit of almost anything on the map a turn as long as the PC Serv are in range.

I have read the rules 4 or 5 times so yes I do know the rules better than them which helps. I tend not to tell people the tactical mistakes they are making b/c I like to win why should I help them beat me? They do do a lot of insanely bad things. They might be a less tactically minded group. I rem the demon player dropping flamers next to Coteaz and me blowing them away. Then the next turn he drops 3 obliterators with 12' of Coteaz trying to overwhelm him. I knew the outcome of that before any dice were rolled. I don't know how he didn't. 3 PC Serv and 5 Jokearos all rerolling missed to hit and wounds.

The Nids they will shoot at my Terv with heavy weapons when I have dropped my Doom down. You had better insta kill that Doom esp if it got endurance or iron arm. I already know the outcome that game w/ a doom running around w/ 10 wounds. I do see the choices they make losing them the game. I would have made a different call every time.

Also it is frowned apon taking lists just tailored to defeat one player so that helps me a lot.

EDIT add:

The 1st Crusade of Fire Game was 13 players on teams of Choas, Zenos, and Imperials. The Imperials deep struck 25 terminators on to the center objective. Everyone thought they had it except for me. I dropped my doom down and kill 17 of the 25 terminators. 2 turns later Choas killed my doom after countless more deaths at his hands. The Whole store was watching and everyone cheered including my team. I was like WTFudge you all are on mky team I won us the game. They said yeah but really hate your Doom.

They put me with a Dark Eldar girl who had never won a game in teams of 1k each. We only had 1500pt lists made so we all had to remake our lists. I didn't even know dark eldar but took a quick look at her codex. I told her to take all the dark lances she could and I'd take a fortress for her to deploy inside. I took a hive tyrant w/ old adv. and 9 Tyrant guard. She blew up everything at range and I killed anything that got close. I never knew how crazy good her HQ was w/ a 2+ Inv save w/ a 5 or 6 BS manning the 8str ap3 krak storm missiles (what for 100 points?). They could not kill him. Thy did deepstrike some terminators next to the hive guard and killed 2 of them, but then the Tyrant, tervigon, and the 7 remaining hive guard stomped a mud hole in them.

Sounds to me like youre just a good player, and sadly most people hate to lose. Try to use some of the weaker units in your codices. Use less optimised lists and challenge yourself, it may make it easier for your opponents.

I get this playing daemons, to the point where last edition, I avoided using good unit's, just so people would like/play me. I diddn't use screamers or flamers, and made a pure nurgle list, but people hated me for running epidemius. So I took him out, carried on eaking out wins, and people hated me for having a resillient army. So I made slaanesh unit's, and people moaned that i always hit first, so I always won.

Then my new book came out. And now they hate me for my new rules, despite everything I run actually being easier to kill now.

Sad faces all around.

You shouldn't have to buy a new army. However, if you do decide to, pick a truly old codex. Black templars, tau (Avoiding the few tau lists that still hold up well), or what have you. They will find it harder to moan you are winning because of what you bring, when they lose to a decade old book.

See I have this issue where someone I play is almost like you. He wins just about every game and plays all armies. And I play him because I love the game. There are about 3 people like that near me that I just play because I like playing.

Have you read the FAQ on Jokearos? 5 will never give you any of their upgrades at all.

If you want people to play you more then you need to start helping them get better at the game rather than just playing to win.

Your attitude in you response tells me you play to win.(PERIOD) and not to have fun with a fellow gamer (which requires the other person to challenge you).

I used to win all the time in 3rd edition with a 10:1 wins to ties ratio and no losses with my eldar. Everyone still wanted to play me though cause I would always give advice and I would play incredibly uneven games at time with one time facing 3 same point armies to my one. (Draw)

I will sum it up with this, decide which is more fun for you; do you want to play yourself or your opponent? If you want to play yourself then keep pounding the inferior opponents into the ground. If you want to play against an opponent then teach them what they need to do and encourage them to think.

There was a guy who was undefeated there thru 40 or so games when I 1st started w/ my GKs and I lost to him every time. I don't like losing but loved the challenge of playing him. He really was a 40k genius. I looked foward to making lists vs him and came very close to winning several times. He got engaged and needed wedding/honeymoon money so he sold all his stuff and quit. I still hope to see him come back to see if I'd win or not now that I am not a noob.

The only other guy that can beat me cheats and I just don't enjoy playing him so I avoid him. I guess I should play him more seeing as how he is a good player but he tries to get away w/ everything he can, Extra movement 1' or so ect. His guys don't have arms glued on so he'll remove a guy I thought was a space wolf w/ ML but it was a bolter the ML guy was the guy next to him when I was certain it was not. Not telling me Jaws of the Wolf is a psyker power and not a special ability like I thought so my Tervigon didn't get deny the witch. Me not knowing either that MCs get +1 on the roll so I saved on a 1 or less where as i would have gotten 5 or 6 on deny the witch and 1 or 2 on the init save. That is me saving my tervigon 2 out 3 times vs only 1 of 6. Plus he'd have had to make Shadows in the Warp roll to even cast since I was in range. He said it was my fault for not knowing it was a psyker power and not a special ability after the game when I looked it up. We were playing for bits too. I really think he has to tell me when casting a psychic power. He rolled his leadership on 2d6 not 3d6.

I really hate to lose but do enjoy a challenge.

PS. I don't ever bother rolling for Jokearo upgrades even when i have 2 b/c mainly I always forget so that is a non issue. They are there for being las cannons w/ Coteaz and rerolling hit and wounds. 5 L-Cannon 50% hit rate is not good but w/ Coteaz I find the reroll makes them playable and effective.

I really really don't like giving advice (even when people want it) on how to win and I think that is a big part of my problem. You may have hit the nail on the head there.
