Yet another project started, this one isn't an army, but a diorama and as the title says it's FW's Abaddon and Loken kit that is the subject.

The plan is to enter it into the Danish version of GW's the Fang painting competition in April, so there's a deadline growing closer and closer.

Onto the kit itself, the models are gorgeous, but the display base is not entirely as I want it so that'll need to be changed

Here's the first WIP picture of what I'm going with, a more stylized version of the base included.

it would appear that loken is missing a head, BUT I LIKE IT

I can't look at this diorama without thinking, "But Abbaddon is just going to get shot in the face."

Thanks man, and no I actually like the models as they are, only minor thing that will be changed is that I'm not gonna magnetize his sword arm and gun arm, as the gun arm makes no sense, instead the combi bolter and sword will be magnetized

Yeah I get what you're saying, but it's a modified suit of Cataphract terminator armour and has an inbuilt shield generator that in Abby's case gives him an invulnerable save of 4+ so if he's handy with his dice he might not get shot at all

The base build is nearly finished, just need some finishing touches, but that's not what this update is about

I've been working with a polished black sheen for his armour, so I tried tackling the black in a completely new way to what I would have done in the past, it's hard to see here, but I'll go into greater detail when I get a bit longer in the process and can take some pictures that really shows off the work on the black.
I also need to tidy up some of the extreme edge highlights.

The head has been treated to some under lit OSL (Object Source Lighting) to give him a bit of a looming look, but I didn't want to overdo it as I think it tends to look cartoonish if his gorget is glowing like a big light bulb. I'm really pleased with how it turned out so far. I've mainly used the secret weapon miniature's washes I am currently reviewing for the OSL and othe parts like skin and metal shading and I must say I'm impressed so far.


This model is no less than amazing and it's so awesome to finally get to paint it, so expect another update shortly.

Great work on Abaddon. He looks proper miffed.

That black armour is terrific and Abaddon's face even more so, the eyes are especially good! Is the top knot finished? It doesn't look as well blended as the rest of the model so far, could be the camera playing tricks though...

Don't be disheartened mate. It's a competition after all, and I have no idea who enters either, and knowing some of the painters that live in the capitol area which might show up, I might not stand a chance myself but I'll still enjoy the day I plan on using the opportunity to network a bit, meet some cool people and see some painted miniatures in the flesh and take a lot of pictures So I hope yo'll turn up and compete anyway

Don't worry TDA i'll be there no matter what, it'll be fun to see all of the painters you admire ^^

Awesome I too hope to see the works of some of the people I admire, that'd be more satisfying than winning any categories of the actual contest imo

A little progress:
The base is nearly done, I've made some covers for the back of the bases edges, which hopefully blends in well when painted.

A small but important update; I have found a green I like for Loken.



I originally tried matching the colour to the artwork in Betrayal, but for some reason I ended here and decided I liked it. It turned out it looked pretty similar in colour to the FW paintjob, which was either pure luck or my sneaky subconscious at work


The recipe for my result was fairly simple actually, the old GW hawk turquoise with a little bit of VMA burnt umber in it, and a few drops of Secret weapon's green wash. Highlights are made by ading VMA sand to the base mix and then when I was happy I gave the armour a glaze of Secret weapon's green black wash.

Choosing the right colours for the SoH is probably the biggest dispute in this hobby the last 10 nyears, so feel free to share your thoughts on my choice of green

Now that is a nice looking green! I miss the old GW Hawk Turquoise, it seemed to always be the perfect colour for everything...

If i had the funds i would start up a Luna Wolf legion alongside the Imperial Fist Legion i just started. Loken has long been one on my favourite characters in the warhammer universe. exelent work all around!

Thanks man, I must say that even though Loken is awesome, I've always been a massive fan of Abaddon so he'll get a bodyguard of Justaerin which should be on their way from FW as we speak

And there's an internet cookie to the person who guesses what this is for And no, it's not a cape..

Loken is looking fab! No idea what that fabric could be for though, decoration for the plinth perhaps? Not a flag surely?
