Just because I have packed in Games Workshop games for the foreseeable future, does not mean I cannot delve into the past for a fix of 40k goodness...

So, time for a little project I have been putting off. I got ahold of these a good few years back:

Circa 1991. 22 years sat in a box.

But no longer! This 'Imperial Space Marine Squad' is going to be a lot of fun to make!

For some reason I am more interested in seeing these painted than anything else on dakka.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

So, time to get cracking! Step one, remove all the bits from the sprues. Surprise number one. The bits required very little prep work before assembly. No flash, easy to clean up mold lines (which are VERY small) the detail may be a bit lacking and the poses basic...but the quality of the kit for the time is mind bobbling.

Step two, glue the bits together. No problems here!

Three done and no mishaps/probmems at all. If only my aviation retro builds went this smoothly.

^ That.

Can't wait to see how this ends.

My very first squad ever was from the larger version of this kit (had enough for 20 guys, I think). I use them in every game to this date!

And there we have it, all ten built and based, and I must say I wish they still made these kits...I would love to make a force of these retro boys!

For the colour scheme, I have decided to paint these guys up as Lamenters - the unfortunate, long suffering butt-monkeys of the 41st millenium.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Ooh yes, love a bit of nostalgia in the P&Ms... and a nib nostalgia fest at that. Bet that would have been worth a pretty penny on eBay - but where's the fiun in that...

Lamenters heh, nice choice - gotta admit i would have been tempted to go the fists route

Exactly so! I always wanted to have another crack at building a set of these.
