he Night Shroud is a dedicated bomber that is larger than the more numerous Night Scythe and Doom Scythe craft, alongside which it operates, whose origins date back countless aeons to the lost battles of the War in Heaven.

The Night Shroud was built to carry a relic of that ancient and apocalyptic conflict, so-called Death Spheres, containment vessels that imprison the merest fragment of anti-matter. The Death Sphere's potent warhead is kept out of phase with the material universe until the sphere detonates, when it unleashes an energy blast capable of annihilating anything it touches.

The Necron Night Shroud Bomber, designed by Daren Parrwood, is an imposing battlefield presence. This complete resin and plastic kit is packed with detail, and its sinister, elongated profile makes for an impressive centrepiece or painting project for any Necrons collection. Full rules and background for this construct will be included in the forthcoming Imperial Armour – Volume Twelve: The Fall of Orpheus.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/NECRON_NIGHT_SHROUD_BOMBER.html

The stasis-crypts of the Necrons are protected by great defensive structures; near-impregnable fortifications designed to stand against the ravages of eternity, hostile action and deadly environments. Tomb Citadels often stand on the outermost borders of a wider complex. They act as watchtowers and outposts that are often the merest tip of the iceberg; the fathomless depths of silent galleries and stasis-chambers that make up the nameless cities of the Necrons extending far below them.

A Tomb Citadel is far more than an inert relic of strange aeons past, however. Each is a near-living war machine in its own right, and Imperial combat records record these brutish structures rising from the very earth, or phasing strangely into existence in the midst of a Necron assault. If not quickly destroyed, these dread ziggurats will form a beachhead from which the undying legions pour forth to destroy their foes

The Realm of Battle Necron Tomb Citadel, designed by Blake Spence, is a 2' x 2' (609mm x 609mm) tile which can fit onto a Citadel Realm of Battle board.

Ehhhhhhh. So now I'm in a weird place, since I've been saying for literally years how much I'd like it if FW did some Necron stuff.

Then they did those wasps, which again, I decided looked like if FW was handed a bunch of Wraith and Spyder parts and were told "make something different out of these".

And now we have this Bomber, which is similar in theme. It's not that I dislike it, so much as I wish it was, you know, a actual new kit, like the Crassus was, or at least a really, really extreme rebuild of an existing kit (like the Storm Eagle is). Instead we have this conversion kit which is, like, 4 pieces. And it's $105!!!

No, no. I have to say it - this sucks. It does. It's a very low effort conversion kit for a super high, premium price. I don't like it.

I second Ouze's opinion that this is a very expensive conversion kit. Can't quite justify the cost, as cool looking as it is.

Very much agreed. Though I must say that this is what the plastic Scythe should have looked like from the start. At times it feels like FW is bent on fixing mistakes that Citadel makes, or making up for missed opportunities if you will, though not until after the original plastic kit has made enough money. First the Storm Raven, now the Scythe... Here's hoping they get around to the Talon eventually.

Well, I do like the execution of the "no exposed pilot" and had long since intended to do that for for my own long unbuilt scythe - I already intended to do that as I did with my Triarch Stalker. I don't dig the idea of sentient machines riding around on other machines, and yeah I know the counterpoint to that so no need to rekindle that debate, just stating my preference.

The Necron terrain is alright though. Not great, but pretty good.

To be fair, it's a complete kit (plastic Night Scythe + conversion bits), meaning the resin parts cost "only" £42.50. It's a cool kit, but not £70 cool.

It's more than just a conversion kit. They are selling the plastic kit alongside the conversion kit, just like the repressor complete kit.

Yeah... I'm a fan of the looks of the flyer, but I'm not sure that the extra set of wings are justification enough for doubling the price. It really makes me wonder if someone smarter than I can figure out how to magnetize the pieces that make it different than the Scythes...

You know what else would double the size? Buying 2 Night Scythes and gluing them together. It would also be like $25 cheaper. hell, with the 20% off, you can buy 3 of them and make a human centipede model out of it.

I don't have a problem with the high-ass price since it's Forge World and that is their way. I also don't have a problem with resin + plastic conversion kits in general.

I have a problem when you combine the high-ass price with a conversion kit that doesn't make for a drastically new model. I don't feel like on this release they're offering value to match the premium. The Bombard is a perfect example of a resin+ plastic conversion kit done right, IMO. yes, it uses about half of a Leman Russ, but it's a totally new and awesome model. This just feels like a Night Scythe with a couple of pieces added onto it, more akin to, say, a Chimera turrret swap. And that in and of itself would ALSO be OK, if they didn't command such a ridiculous price for it, see?

I mean, you may feel it's worth the premium, and that's OK. I myself do not.

You guys realize the entire back end and top of the body are completely new as well right? And significantly extended too... there is actually quite a bit of resin on the model, it isn't just the extended wings and canopy.

That being said, it is so close to a completely new model, it is almost a slight shame they left the single most recognizable bit (the actual croissant) that give the impression it is less modded than it is...

That being said, I like it, and the ROB tile too!

Why do you guys keep calling this a conversion kit? According to the FW page, the Night Shroud is a complete resin and plastic kit. You get an entire Night Scythe/Doom Scythe plastic kit as well as all the resin parts needed to make the FW variant. If it were a conversion kit, you'd still have to go out and buy your own plastic.

As far as aesthetics go, I think I'll leave off the fingertip looking canopy and make it all flush with the surrounding fuselage like I did with my Night Scythes. Hopefully it won't be too much hassle. It damned well better not be as infuriating to assemble as that stupid Storm Eagle they made awhile back. Yea, I'm still buttsore about that.

I guess I always used the phrase "conversion kit" when they're bolting stuff onto a pre-existing plastic kit, even though you're right, that phrase does have a very specific (and different) meaning.

And without a lot of work, it wouldn't look nearly as nice.

How is this not a "drastically new model." I mean, it keeps the sillouette of the Night Scythe while bulking it out significantly to better reflect a bomber-type vehicle. It makes sense that the chassis would be similar. (See: Land Raider Variants, Rhino Variants, Chimera Varients, Wave Serpent Variants, etc) You use the Bombard as an 'acceptable' example when the Shroud makes JUST AS MANY changes to the Night Scythe profile as the Bombard does to the Leman Russ profile. I mean, the Bombard is essentially a 'weapon swap' as well.....
