I was reading the Wisconsin thread and started wondering what it's like in other areas. Here in my neighborhood, it's about 50% Latino, with people coming from Mexico, Central and South America. There's about 15% Polynesian, along with about 5% Black 5% Asian, and the rest, Caucasian or Native American.
This pretty much carries over to my job, also, making for a nice mix.
What about the other areas you various posters live in?

Well living in the sticks here in Lincolnshire we have a fair share of eastern Europeans but i would say about 90% white if not more. ten odd years ago in same area out of three local schools 2000 odd pupils there was one of an ethnic minority, and don't think things have changed that much.

just backwards in Lincolnshire and no one really has much reason to come to a mainly farming area like mine.

I lived in The Bronx until I was about 25, so like 37% black, 53% hispanic (and by hispanic, we're talking mostly Puerto Ricans - the biggest population outside of Puerto Rico proper), and 12% white. Those numbers add up to 102%, so thanks Wikipedia for that. There was an enclave of incredible hostile Albanians in my neighborhood when I was a kid as well.

I've since moved to Iowa. Everyone is white here, pretty much - 87% white/7% black/6% hispanic, in my county. . I'm Puerto Rican with an Italian last name, and this has been a novelty in many placesboth here and elsewhere. I was once in Oklahoma and signed a credit card slip, and the clerk asked "Oh, is that Eye-talian? I loove the Sopranos". But tha's Oklahoma, so I'll let D-Usa weigh in on his people.

Small world. My brother in law was a Puerto Rican from the Bronx. His family came up from the Dominican Republic after his uncle was assasinated by the dictator at the time who then was killed by his bodyguards.
I also lived in Iowa for a couple years in a town called Corning, in the Southwest.

We have a fair population of immigrants, including a number of refugees, mostly from the Balkans (Bosnians and such); it's the biggest city in my small state.

It's a mix. The first major wave of post-railroad Asian immigration began in the 1980s.

Well in my township of about 6658 people there are 37 people of non-white descent. So we're pretty white washed. I had never actually met a hispanic or polynesian or East indian in the flesh before I switched to an inner city school in grade 11.

White (78.6%)
Hispanic American/Latino (14.1%)
Black/African-American (6.8%)
American Indian/Native American (0.9%)
Asian (2.8%)
Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (0.2%)
Other (6.4%)
Two or more races (4.3%)

The last place I lived (Yuma, Arizona) was roughly 50/50 white and hispanic with some native americans, and others thrown in for flavor, and the other towns in the county were pretty much all hispanic. However it was about 10 miles from the US-Mexican border, so it's not like it's shocking is it?

My only lament is that it's virtually impossible to find a decent Mexican restaurant here. Sure, I get all the Pho I can handle (mmmmm ) but the closest thing to a decent Mexican place is Taco Del Mar; which fills me with such sadness.

Can't find much related data on the subject, other than the Kamloops Indian Band is one of the largest of the 17 groups which the Secwepemc (Shuswap) nation was divided, oh and apparently we have about 5 reserves.

I said "Mexican restaurant", not "turd sandwich abomination dispensary".

Gotta make a pilgrimage to Yuma Arizona then Az, we have nothing but good Mexican food.... and a shockingly good Indian restaurant. I was in the latter so much the couple who owned it pretty much adopted me.

Trashy Mexican food is superior to almost all other types. Where is this mythical land, this "Senor Froggy" that you speak of?
