Ok, so I get the whole "Space Hulk is an HQ for Orcs/Genestealers/Emperor-Knows-What-Else using it as an HQ and its barreling right for your sector!" purpose for boarding a Space Hulk plus also the "McGuffin of Ancient Technology/Secrets/etc."
But, are there any other reasons why someone would risk boarding what amounts to a floating Dungeon in Space?
Do any other IoM forces (Aside from SMs), bother with the things in the first place?
The AdMech's jimmi's get pretty rustled at the thought of the lost tech that may be hidden aboard ancient hulks, IIRC that's one of the big reasons the Imperium doesn't just blow them to pieces.
Yes. Chaos followers(meaning all Chaos mortals), Chaos daemons, Eldar and Tau can be interested in Spac Hulks for one reason or another. those reasons may be the same or not the same as the Imperiums.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I get my info from the latest Deathwatch rpg book Ark of Lost Souls.

"It began, with the writing of the Great Codices,
2 were given to the Eldar. Immortal, Capricious, and most farsighted of all,
2 also to Chaos. Traitorous, Deceitful, Servants of the Dark Gods,
3 to the Xenos races. T'au, Orks, and Necrons. the Young, the Beast, and the Spiteful,
7 to the race of men. Servents of the God Emperor, the Inheritors of the Galaxy.
But they were all of them, decieved. for another Codex was written…
In the Land of Ward'or, in the Fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Matthew wrote in secret, a Master Codex, to rule all the others. One by one, all the armies of the other Codices fell to the power of the Codex, and from this Darkness, none could see hope.
But there were some, who resisted. a Last Alliance of Men and Xenos took up arms against the forces of Ward'or and on the Slopes of Mount Doom they fought for the freedom of 40k."
I think that A) taking the technology/treasure/knowledge contained within, B) taking the hulk in order to utilize it as a command center/transport/home and C) boarding it to kill off the inhabitants, either out of self defense or in order to protect others, pretty much summarize the main reasons to board a Space Hulk.
Wasn't there a imperial navy ship thats supposed to be the oldest ship still in use that was reclamed from a space hulk. It's supposed to pre-date the hersey or something?
The biggest reason is, of course, that you are an Ork, and why the hell wouldn't an Ork go on a space hulk?
The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

The Tau Empire is a civilisation on the rise. Evergrowing
and expanding, the Tau have found a way
to thrive despite their relative youth. This youth
gives them great energy and innovation, but it also curses
the Tau with a fair dose of naiveté, a dangerous thing
in a universe where knowledge can be deadly to the
unwary. So far as the forces of the Achilus Crusade can
ascertain, the Tau of the Canis Salient have not yet had
many encounters with the perils of a Space Hulk—they
are a fortunately rare occurrence by any estimation—but
the appearance of a conglomeration of derelict starships
seems too great a wealth of knowledge and technology
for their kind to ignore.
Even with their limited experience of the hazards of a
Space Hulk, the Tau have nevertheless learned that they are
perilous places, and in their own way they have developed
means to confront these dangers. Utilising flocks of semiintelligent
exploratory drones, commanded by a small
number of Fire Caste Warriors in specialised void armour,
Tau expeditionary forces are small but well equipped.
Each adheres strictly to complex strategic doctrines that
prioritise the survival of valuable assets over and above
direct confrontations

As far as I remember it's an Emperor-class battleship. It's mentioned in the BFG rulebook under the entry for that class.
"By this point I'm convinced 100% that every single race in the 40k universe have somehow tapped into the ork ability to just have their tech work because they think it should."
Lets see if I recall correctly. "The hunk is heading to the planet, and as we lack sufficient orbital bombardment ability to destroy the craft the only choice is to board the hunk find the bridge and set it on a coarse away through the warp."
It's the first mission briefing from the space hunk video game. Or what I recall at least. I haven't played sense I was a kid.

Tau and Chaos do it too.

You are both rational and emotional. You value creation and discovery, and feel strongly about what I create. At best, you're innovative and intuitive. At worst, you're scattered and unpredictable.
When you consider that uncovering schematics to make a knife is enough to earn you a planetary lordship, going into a hulk to loot is a pretty good idea.... except for that little bit about orks and genestealers. Oh yeah, and daemons, chaos cults and other unthinkable things. But that Emperor must have the matching fork and spoon.

Other races also board Space hulks.
