Got a moral dilemma on my hands, some of my Warhammer 40k stuff is being Favorited by a neo-nazi over on Deviantart, I really don't want to be associated with that kind of idiocy, but not sure how to respond...

I could take my art down, and repost it to break his links, but that would break everybody elses too.

I could just go through his favorites and report all the hate speech, as it violates DA terms of service, but I don't like censoring folks,

I could post a link to the blues brothers clip of them running down the Illinois Nazi's on his shouts, but he'd just hide it...

So far the best idea I've had is to paint up a Primaris as Joseph, in his coat of many colors, and a unit of Imperial Psychers bearing the Ark, just to tick him off, any thoughts?

I'd report him. He's breaking the rules in a private space, it's just the honest thing to do to call him out. There was user agreement when he signed up and he should be held to it.

It's absurd to say you don't want to "Censor" someone who is going around violating an agreement everyone there (including yourself) said they would uphold. Hell I'd say really you have a responsibility to report him.

However if you really are so enamoured with the idea of him going on, and on and on about neo-nazi bullcrap in a place he specifically agreed to not go on and on about neo-nazi bull crap, you've got options.

Paint up a squad of black space marines making out with guardsmen under a banner that says "Nazis Suck", or something.

Technically it's not -him- who's breaking the site rules, it's the other artists on DA who he's +fav'd who have.. I've reported a few of the more egregious ones, but this fellow has ~200 pages of favorites to go through it'll take me a bit..

so basically he's breaking the rules by extension...but again why feel bad...Neo Nazi's support or deny the holocaust ever happened (or both somehow) and support a dead regime that is guilty of other atrocities against humanity as a whole

When you post items on a public site, nefarious people may 'like' your item. Usually you can moderate your own comments so people can't say things on your posting, but most sites I don't see that they allow moderation of viewing or liking items.

I really don't know what you can do about it.

Why not private message him and ask him not to like your stuff

As I indicated above, technically he isn't breaking the site rules, but a lot of his -other- favorites are, since DA has rules against "hate speech" in it's submission policy. Hypothetically, I could go through and report all the favorites that I think are breaking that rule.

You shouldn't Care what his beliefs are so long as they bring no harm to anyone, he is allowed his opinion, you dont have to agree to it.

My opinion: I find people of that creed disgusting, but freedom of speech is freedom of speech, we can't discriminate just because we dont like it, otherwise were just as bad.

If you feel strongly enough about it report it to whomever you need to.

I agree with Formosa 100%.

Is he posting hate-speech on your own image threads, or in any form of communication directed at you? If so, I'd flag it immediately. Otherwise, who cares? Chances are he's just some fourteen year old with a secret nazi fetish, and reporting him is just going to give him the attention he wants. Don't feed the troll.

In fairness, he only liked your picture. I'd understand if he'd commented on your picture with something you don't like. I'd understand if his username was offensive or racist, and you didn't want his name on the "like" list. But i would just take it for what it is. He likes your work, not your values. Instead of going on this "HEY GUYS AM SO PC" crusade, just leave him to his beliefs, and you stick to yours.

I assume you're referring to the infamous "torture-device"?

If so, I've known this guy (online) for a few years. He does hold pretty extreme political views, and he's open about the fact that he holds them, but he's still a talented artist with a very sincere passion for miniatures wargaming that has nothing to do with his political ideals.

If he likes your stuff, what's the problem? He is open to expressing appreciation for the art of those who don't share his views and you should be, too.

In a more global sense, we shouldn't pander to the persecution complex of the far right.

People like to distance themselves from Nazism as much as possible. I know i was scared about my Commissar costume because i was afraid people might misconstrue it.

If you have a problem with him just PM him and ask him to go away.
Otherwise there's not a lot you can do.

...Why's it an issue? Its not like people know that the person likes your things (unless they trawl through every one of the people on an image's favorite's list).

Its not breaking any rules for someone to be liking your stuff. You can just block them if I remember correctly...

On the subject of offensive material though I don't know how DA handles things. I've came across a few users who post quite offensive material and yet still have accounts (one that was entirely neo-nazi propaganda and was in the "watched" sites of a popular user that posts 40k fanart regularly ...and neo-nazi propaganda irregularly).

Deviant Art's an American site, so I'm assuming their laws take presidense over local ones, but "Freedom of Speech" doesn't cover some of the stuff that's posted there in my country... Especially given that its a widely visited site. =P

You don't allow cancer to spread by expressing itself. You excise it completely from the body, and with sharp objets too!

Whether you like it or not, he enjoys your work and even the most insane can like what they want. Someone liking your art should not have an affect on it.

I've had one or two do that to me too on DA, I just ignore it. I know my work doesn't represent such twisted ideals
