So as the title says which DA Wing would you field???
Consider these types of opponents/situations
Tournaments:
Vs Chaos (Perferred Enemy):
Vs other Armies:
Vs Gunlines:
Vs Hordes:
Vs Mech:
Casual Play:
Fluff Armies:
So I'm trying to get the grasp of my fellow DA players out there and possibly gain some insight, army lists, tatics, and fun ideas to run during games so that I'm not always running the same lists or blindly running something that is completly obsurd
Let me know what you all are thinking also, let me know if this is in the wrong catagory here in the forums

Terminators are awesome, and are made more awesomer with the addition of Ravenwing teleport homers.
My Deathwing force (with friends) are more based on fluff than effective army composition, but its done pretty well. The heavy alpha-strike and resilience of terminators gives you a reasonable amount of lee-way in making tactical mistakes. However just don't make the mistake of assuming that you can sit a squad of terminators directly in front of a whole army without getting wasted

Ravenwing or Deathwing. I don't know why you would play Dark Angels to field Tactical Marines unless you were into the "hey guys a long time ago some of were jerks so now we're hunting them down and if anyone finds out we'll all be killed!" and "omg we are the most superty secrety chapter EVAR!1!11!!!" fluff.

Well according to the new Ravenwing book...the Ravenwing utilized tactical squads to help the bikes flank the fleeing enemy! Also, Azreal is an awesome HQ choice, 215pts, unlocks both Deathwing and Ravenwing as troops! Drop Azreal/Ezikiel + 8 Vets in a Drop Pod and maybe hope for some carnage backed up from the guys in Black/Bone

I run all kinds of lists. I enjoy DW and RW "pure" lists. The one I find works best for me though is a DW/RW hybrid list. bikes letting my termies DS with no scatter. plus the tactical flexibility oh heavy hitters + agile bikers tends to make it a solid TAC list.
also like to throw in rifleman dreads and dev squads for fire support sometimes.
YMMV.

Have any of you had the chance of going up against Chaos? If so, did you utilize the Deathwing Knights? How did the match go overall? All that hate coming from those DA marines....."Oh looky guys we found some Chaos to kill!"

Deathwing Knights see as chaos as crunchy snacks!!!
For those who want to use a ridiculous (and very expensive) deathstar Try 7 Deathwing Knights with Ezekial and a PFG Techamarine in a Land raider Crusader.
Also Pure Deathwing is my choice.

So going up against Chaos with rerolling ones....What does that exactly mean??? So if I were to roll with a Belial +10 Termies and come down on T1 I already have Vengeful Strike which means Twin-Linked for the turn they come in. However would that also include on the rerolls of the twin linked I would also be able to reroll ones that I rolled????
Also, how have you all faired against Horde armies like Tyanids and Orks! I love those Orks but sadly haven't been able to play against them yet
What about Allies for the DA...who has found the best combo yet I personally, have found that allying with another army has kinda messed with the whole synergy of Deathwing/Ravenwing.

RIght now I'm running a list that combines all the different wings and its doing well for me. Azareal is a must with this list and is who makes it work.
as far as allies go, You don't really need them. If you want to run assault marines, your better off taking blood angel allies. or if you just want to add more bodies for cheap add some IG.

You can never reroll the same roll more than once and as your reroll from twin-linked covers all cases of misses you would not use PE on the to hit roll, but as PE let you reroll to wound rolls too it still comes in handy. Also wounding on 2+ with rerolling the 1s is absolutely awesome on Deathwing Knights.
I have run my Deathwing with my Tau as both armies are not big enough for normal play and they worked quite well together. I'm not sure if it's the best combo but Tau gunline and deepstriking termis synergized nicely.

Ravenwing, Deathwing is unfieldable to the point of uncompetitiveness.
I'm 15-0 with my Ravenwing. Deathwing have yet to win a game.

I'll admit for a high level tournament pure deathwing would do poorly if you didn't bring some anti-flyers, for local tournaments they can be great fun. I have done very well in all my games with deathwing so far, they can be very hard to kill and are great at denying opponents scoring points.
I just find Deathwing more fun to play, so I do and adapt my strategies to compensate for weakness. So far ignoring flyers to death has been interesting, and infuriating for some opponents. I love throwing a librarian in termie armor in with my deathwing squad with 2 cyclone missile launchers to let them re-roll by pulling from divination.
I lost my first couple games with deathwing because I had never played them before so it took me a while to figure out some good strategies, but since then I have won every game by having a very tough hard to crack list.

The list I'm using right now is a 1500 point list.
Azareal
1 10 man tac squad with a plasma gun in Rhino
1 9man tac squad with plasma gun in rhino (Azareal joins this one)
2 5-man terminator squads 2 TH/ SS 1 missile
1 6man ravenwing squad with 2 plasma guns
2 landspeeders with MM/ HF
1Landspeeder with HB/Missile.
Its a very flexible list, that seems to be doing well for me.
If I was going to take this up to 2000, the first things I'd include would be an attack bike with MM to the ravenwing squad, a 2nd tac squad in Rhino with a Libarian with powerfield... Then clump the rhinos together so they are all in the 4+ invul bubble of the powerfield.

A single Bloodthirster could wipe out an entire Deathwing army without breaking a sweat. We have no answer to FMCs, especially Flying Greater Daemons.

I have so far devastated any Bloodthirster that has come after my deathwing, I use my TH/ SS termies to beat them down and with a 3+ invuln they kill almost none of my guys. Greater Daemons so far have failed to make any impact on the termies most of their attacks have bounced and I force them to assault what I want them to assault.

How many can you possibly field? One unit? The BT has wings, it just goes after your non TH/ SS termies and the rest of the Daemon force rapes your single TH/ SS squad.

Deathwing can comfortably field 3-4 units of TH/ SS and have points to spare. I too have pretty much slaughtered any Bloodthirster that tried to assault me, and the rest of the army wasn't too difficult to put down. The only time I lost a full unit to a bloodthirster was when I rolled straight 1's for everything....

3-4? what points level are you playing at, 2000? There's space for one or two, at most, and you lose a 2/5ths of your shooting.
