Hey guys. I've never done any converting before and I bought a nurgle dp yesterday as well as some dragon wings from the WHFB range. I was wondering if anyone can give me and advice on how to go about fixing them on if you've done it before. There are 2 nice flat surfaces on the top of his back where the stack things go so I'll probably leave those off and fix the wings on there. I was thinking of cutting the bottom of the wing flat then sticking and green stuffing around it to build up the area around to make it look more natural. Any tips?

Thanks,
James

Sounds like you have a good plan going. I'd probably look at pinning the wings as well. Stuff that big gets bumped and moved and the more ways to keep it secure the better.

Unless you want to go the magnetizing it route

How do you pin stuff? Really stupid question I know but I've never done it before!? :s

Pinning is simple and easily the best way.
Cut the wing so it fits nicely against the model, then put a small dot of paint on it before pressing them together.

That will give you a mark on both parts.
You simply use a small drill bit or a pin vice (small handheld model drill) to drill about 5mm into the model, or more if you can.
You then use a piece of thick wire or tubing which can be pushed into the hole (i make the holes 0.5mm - 1mm depending on the model) and hold it together.

If you do that 1st, before you glue and GS it will have alot of strength and hold for ages.

I have a GW dril which I use for general stuff such as drilling out bolters. Would the holes created by those be sufficient?

That should be more than fine for the job.

If its that one, then its more than fine and up to the job

That's the one yes, I'm thinking of using a small piece of paper clip as seen on a youtube video. I believe the wings I have have a small piece coming off of the wing where is attches into a socket on the original model, would that be ok work pinning or should I cut it flat and pin that part, possibly 2 times?

If the wings are plastic a single length of paperclip should do fine. I would recommend trimming back to a flat bit to get a solid join.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

If I understand that correctly you might be better drilling down the length of the wing at an angle and then bending the paper clip it so it fit's at the right angle to sit flat on the body when assembled.

What you're talking about would work (and would be stronger pinned twice), but imo the other way is better. In my experience it's more effective having a really long pin than two short ones.

Edit.

Basically you shouldn't ever need to adjust the model just to fit the pin.

Thanks, I've been watching videos and hadn't seen that one. As long as I can get a decent amount of surface contact then the pinning will just be an extra measure. Thanks for all the help guys

I pin just about everything now. Surface contact is great but glue gets brittle and joints take stress. Especially on bigger models.

Once you get the hang of it pinning takes about 5-10 min per model and its worth its weight in gold the first time you drop a model and the arms don't fall off, or you take it out of the foam and dont loose the rider off the horse.
