Hi guys,
I was cutting the tags off the feet of my recently purchased Kasrkin squad, when i noticed something weird. The spelling was wrong. It said 'ksarkin'.
Anyone care to guess why this is?
(the picutre isn't fantastic, but you can see the word)
and a link to them on GW's site - just so you can see how GW spells them.

It's because the Kasrkin models know they'll never be as cool as the old Beret stormtroopers so they mutated their mold to show their shame.

Heh, i've got 20 of the old beret stormtroopers and I would describe it the other way around. They're pants compared to the karskin stormtroopers.

I'm more interested in how you pronounce it. What is that supposed to be - 'Kozzerken?'

Kasr is like cars with a sir on the end, only you bite off the end of the sir to turn it into a short sound. So its carsr kin - the kin of the kasr.
Unless you're one of those people who pronounces it with a light 'a', which would be kah-ser-kin.

Furyou, when you say "Cars", do you mean in that British way where you really aren't pronouncing the "r" at all? Because it sounds silly to me to introduce a consonant that isn't there in a word that is already positively Yiddish with the pointless consonants. It reminds me of all the threads where crazy people claimed that "C'tan" should be pronounced as if it has an "r" in it.
But then, why use the "Cars" version with the meshuggeh "r" when you can say "a as in father" or "a as in naan" or something?
Really, it just drives a person to drink.

Because it's clearer that way, it was four in the morning, and I don't think well in homonyms. Also, because I'm used to translating that sound by putting an 'r' in (such as マアケツ). How do you even pronounce the R in cars? carsr. Kasr. It sounds the same.

I always pronounced it "Kar-skin", because I thought the R came first.
But I'm from the south, so I have an excuse to pronounce something wrong

Okay, people,
"Kasr" is the Cadian word for "Planet". At least, planet in the cadian system for which there are many. For example, go look at your codex entry for Creed, and you'll see that he's from Kasr Gallan.
"Kin" is, well... kin. Someone who is of, or from, or a member of something. Like family.
These best of the best are therefore Kasr-Kin. A name roughly equivalent to the "Sons of Iraq" or "Guards of the Motherland" or whatever modern equivalent you want to think of. As for how to pronounce it, well... it's "Kasr" and then you say "Kin". Nothing fancy.

Actually, Kasr is the Cadian word for fort, castle, etc. While it wouldn't surprise me that they'd apply it to their home system planets as well since the entire Gate is a fortress made of castles with bastions on the walls, the difference is important.

There is no are in the katakana you posted. Maaketsu? "Cars" sounds very different over here from "cause". Usually an are is pronounced in the back of the mouth. Try imitating a dog playing with a sock. That's an r.
However, it sounds to me like you are using the are simply to modify the a sound, much like an accent would in French. It just comes across very differently here, where are has its own consonant sound, and does not modify the a any differently than, say "a in father", although we might go so far as to throw in a bunch of unnecessary letters out of habit, as in "fraught, caught or taught." \
Dakka turned my "r"s into "are"s

Cause is pronounced "Caws" or maybe "Coors". >>
マアケツ is the transliteration of "Markets" (as in the band, Mad Capsule Markets).
Cars and Cause sound totally different. One is an 'ah' sound, the other is an 'aw' sound.
