So i have been working on improving my ork playing skills XP I struggle with thinking that i am playing my ork troops wrong. First and for most. Nobs with power klaws, are they even worth the price anymore?? Mine get challenged and die plus i do 20 boy squads in battle wagons with deff rolla and four big shootas on the battle wagon, now is a nob with a power klaw good for this?? I also generally run a mega boss or regular, ghazzy , and recently got my hands on a shady mega nob purchase! So it is really these guys in battle wagons with a dakka jet or two for the 1500 point games i generally play. I guess what I am looking for is that nob issue for starters, and tips on how to run what i have been fielding because i feel what i have can be decently competitive. Thank you for all of your help!

For my boyz I still bring a nob with a PK for armor and lone special characters. It comes down to when to challenge and when to step back so the boyz roll 30-50 dice at the power weapon wielding fools. Weight of attacks will carry the day. Also if the nob and his bosspole live you can still re-roll leadership I believe.
As for groups of nobz, I tend to bring a PK per 5 nobz. Maybe a small upgrade or two like a big chopper or kombi scorcha. I should clarify I use 5 man bikers and 7-10 nobz with a BW.
The bikes would have a painboy, PK, bosspole and waaugh banner with extra points for a big choppa, kombi and cybork (in order of what I grab). With 4+ cover and armor with a FNP cybork is less important.
The foot nobz will have a painboy, PK (maybe 2), a big choppa, bosspole, waaugh banner and a kombi or two. I'll drop the second PK, waaugh and kombi's for cybork if the extra points allow. Why? Because those extra PK attacks and even the higher WS mean little if the nobz can't survive the trip over AND overwatch.
Of the two I prefer biker nobz as they can fit into most any list while the nob BW will take fire if I don't build more credible threats like more BWs or Meganobz missile trukk etc.
Hope this helps and looking to see if better advice comes along

Resentful Grot With a Plan
|
tactics:
Make it to where the nob is not in combat during the initial phase when challenges happen. Then he piles in at I1 and has fun.
[obviously not an always situation]
bring an IC in the squad to accept or hide from the challenge so the nob can precision strike the other character if he gets lucky
Assault with multiple boy squads and have one group have a nob without a pk.
Logic:
Nobs give your boy squads a way to deal with walkers, and vehicles with rear armor 11+. If you are having problems, or don't have dedicated answers to heavy armor or want to swing a combat in your favor faster, then they are needed.
However, at 40 points pk bp nob you can get 6 boys which can give you many more shots and attacks (if you can get them into combat and not stuck behind the already large number of boys. (or they can turn into an extra squad if you skip on 3 pk nobs).
For larger squads of boys I have started skipping a pk nob on one or two squads (if I run 3-4 squads) I always put pks on my biker squads because of their small size I want the bosspole, and after that investment I might as well have a high speed threat (I usually run 2 squads so they get the job done)[I don't use dakkajets yet though]
Basically the smaller the squad of boys the more likely I will need a PK, as opposed to the extra regular attacks. Plus it feels good to Instant death characters.

The thing thing about any discussion concerning why orks did something usually ends with because they are orks, and noone seems to argue, or offer further questioning.

Personally I would footslog the boyz and fill the wagon with burnas, that still works! it gives great cover fire (Very Punny) and also makes them hide in terror as you get 15 x how many models under the template. I think that the nob is no longer worth the points because of the challenges in the foreseeable future. Speend the points on more boyz and burnas, good luck and get the Waaaaaaagh going.

Ah man great help guys! Burnas, I have never used these before and I am afraid of how fast they can be focused down and in te open I feel are very fragil?? Maybe someone could explain this to me?? My thought with the power klaw is first I have been doing all the pre measuring making sure I don't get challenged but sometimes that does not work, so I am going to have to try a few with out power klaws and see how it goes would love to hear more about the burnas. If I did have them in a wagon it would make people have to pick to kill then or mega nobz though so that would indeed be interesting...

I think I will just have to test around the points and see what I'm going against with adding bobs to the battle wagons or not. So not to completely change the subject, but I have 8 lootas. For running what I am with the battle wagons are maxed out lootas mandatory in 1500 games? Or should I be trying out the burnas?

trust me, even the most likely of opponents will run away at a burna wagon. It is a mobile fire base (very punny) and you could even just run it across the enemy front lines. It works, 2 or 3 is even better!

Now I don't know if i am allowed to post what I am running but I wanted to here what you folks think of this after what has been said. Like what my list is really lacking, and how the nobs don't have power klaws.

I wouldn't take Ghaz because the stock Warboss in MegaArmour works just as well. "Prophet of the WAAAGH" isn't worth the extra cost, IMO. If you want extra WAAAGHs, take Old Zog or a Wierdboy Warphead. You can use the points for more boyz.
Likewise, I wouldn't take Mad Dok unless you're going to give more than just your MANZ cybork. "One Scalpel Short..." is a pain to run if you're going for any kind of tactical advantage because you could be moving him towards one unit that's closest that you want to kill with him and his unit, then suddenly some lowly troop mob gets closer? Now you have to go at them first and your priority target walks away.
I don't have my codex with me (I'm at work right now and doing this from memory), but it seems like you might be running one too many BattleWagons unless #1 on your list there is being used as Dedicated Transport for the MANZ.
For your HQ choices I'd suggest Warboss in MegaArmour and maybe a Big Mek w/ Shokk Attack Gun ( SAG) or Old Zog/Wierdboy-Warphead. I think that you can give the MANZ a Painboy if you want to give just them the Cybork ability (don't quote me on that just yet though). Could someone who has their codex handy check this?
Otherwise, I like the 20+ mobs in the Battlewagons! I wish I had that many wagons to field myself!

Yes I have been told about the hq that I should change. Meghan nobs can take battle wagons as dedicated transport, but get no paintbox wich Is why I liked mad dock :/. Haha I found a way to get even more battle wagons though...

Played a modified 1850 tonight, just added two dakka jets and 2 MANZ to each squad. He played CSM, had two hell drakes :( two forge fiends and vindicator, and regular CSM stuff what ever that is xD So his first turn of shoot. BLOWS UP TWO BATTLE WAGONS WITH ONE vindi shot, vs 14 mind you. but i ended up swarming him after that and he could not fight me off of him and i tabled him top of turn five WAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHH

The comment bout the nob surviving and rerolling his leadership, per codex he still needs a boy to punch as he cannot inflict the wound upon himself. Little peeved when i noticed that but it does make sense.... "ZOMG ME LOST ME MUST RUN!" *clocks himself in the jaw* "What da zog wuz i thinkin?" Someone else has to do that not him lol. That last list definately looks like an all out "I will table you" list. I dont see it scoring many objectives but who cares when all your opponent has is a single or duo helldrake flying around lol. You probably got warlord and he didnt, you definately have linebreaker and he probably doesnt, and those MANz are scoring thanks to duo warbosses so you probably have an objective and he doesnt. I might have to try that list. At the old list, Ghazzy isnt worthless like people say he is compared to a warboss in armor, but his uses are drastically limited. At 1850+ i usually bring him because i have points to work with anyway, but if i am facing someone that can field/tends to field MCs i bring him regardless. He eats all except the Swarmlord in my experience, and the Swarmlord just needs some luck on your end (maybe weaken him a little prior to the combat, which should be happening anyway). I still field a regular MANz boss for the most part though. I discovered that use mainly because i was pissed that such a badass character got labled "worthless" or "not worth the extra points" in this edition. And as an added bonus, atleast in my meta, people tend to freak out if they see him at all let alone near something he can damage.

I don't even bother with PK nobs in my shoota boyz anymore. I use them as tarpits and just kill things through weight of dice. It's not a big difference to having the nob since he never got to swing anyways sadly.
With the points I save from dropping the nobs on the boyz mobs, I can put that a long way towards a biker nob squad, which makes more sense. Why would a nob want to run through the muck like a git when he can ride a proppa deffbike straight inta da 'umies and krump em in 'alf da time?
